i was considering cutting them for a month, just till i can afford coilovers.

Just springs are about £80 new and £40-50 second hand. Not really worth it tbh, I'd just wait.

Cheapest like 150...can get stupidly expensive ones for £800+ depends how good you want the ride and how low your going...

Go ebay and the ones thats say "buy now / best offer" make them a silly offer for like £80 or something

I guess cutting springs is like something a young rapscallion would do in his corsa or nova.

i did it and 2 of my mates and they were sounndddd, just do it at your own riskk lol

It works, but the majority of people advise against it. I havnt done it - but a company in banbury did it to loads of cars a while back, the got bollocked when people found out what they had done to their cars! lol.

Did a coil off allround on a Mk2 Golf and it was fine.

Proberly going to take one coil of the fronts on the polo 40mm springs.

Just remember to put some thought into where you make the cut etc

well if the spring is loose it can jump out and cause a crash, puncture and mash your brakes up

i would not advise cutting stock springs , but i have cut lowerd springs , think it was about 4 coils on front and 6 on back (the need to go low years ago) . now i like to be safe when i`m jumpping, so to stop the springs falling out i drilled a hole in the spring platform and fitted jubelie clips around the top and bottom of the spring (only on front as they were loose), passed five mots like that and had no worries when i went jumpping

Seriously though, not all chopped springs are dangerous, i drove my car hard with two coils lobbed off the rear coilies (coil mounted seperate to damper rear suspension, not sure on technical name) for months, nothing bad ever happend. I know of people who have drove for years with nothing happening too

Perhaps some of the people that are saying they're dangerous would be kind enough to tell us of their bad experiences with chopped springs?

my mate in his escort mk4 took 1 spring choped it in half and used half either side then cable tied to stop movement , went through mot no probs
