naming muscle cars doesn't answer the original question, How many decent cars have the Yanks made???

just because a car has legendary status does not mean its a decent car. besides unless you've actually driven the car yourself how can you know if its decent or not?

Superbee was Dodges performance spec if you like, it was above R/T. Plymouth is also part of the MOPAR group (chrysler, dodge, plymouth) but they never had a superbee.

The ford torino wasnt a muscle car lol just a big lazy sedan. Plus starskey and hutch torino was a '75 so there were no muscle cars by then, they were all dead and buried by '73 because of the oil crisis and rising fuel costs.

IIRC there is no way the GT40 was built in britain??? I could be wrong but dont think I am.

Edit: Done a bit of research and I cant find awt that says it was made here. I cant see why it would be as it was commisioned by ford US to beat ferrari at le mans because ford wanted to buy them but ferrari pulled out of the deal. Also Caroll Shelby was the cheif dude IIRC so why would he have it made in britain? Sounds wrong to me.

The Shelby cobra was also made in the states I am pretty sure.

i know they built gt40 in the uk in slough i don't know why but they did

and plymouth did a race version of the roadrunner with big spoiler's which was the Plymouth superbird

The 'hurst' edition cars were chryslers. I think they revived the special edition in the 80's some time with onther mopars but they looked gash.

dodge did a charger like the superbee but i haven't got time to fined out that its called at the moment

IIRC they did a superbee charger wehn it turned shit.

The superbee was a Dodge coronet originally. usually came with a 440cid 6 pack (3x 2bbl carbs)

Sorry bud I didnt realise you meant Superbird. The Dodge Coronet Superbee was a totally different kettle of fish, The brother of the superbird was the Dodge charger daytona. Essentially the same sort of thing, both B body cars.

They probably did use some 68 chargers in the DOH but they obviously fitted all the 69 panels/trim/lights. Same shell for both years so perfectly possible.

Yeah forgot about the Oldsmobile Hurst models, thats what I meant when I said other mopars, but obviously not as Olds is GM.

So, define a 'good' car. I dare say if you live in america the best car to have is an american one. Not really any corners to wory about, although plenty of dirt roads if you live in the south.

I've only ever driven a 67 mustang (which is probably like an over powered capri to drive, much smaller than most american cars, leaf springs at the back), a 68 Dodge D100, which was ok if you like that sort of thing. And a few hotrods, which arent really relevant.

The long and short of it is they have very soft suspension with a lot of travel, Plenty of grunt with the bigger V8's, shit brakes if its 70 or before (ish), they are infinitly reliable and built like tanks. And they look a lot better than crappy brit cars of the same age. (apart from mid 70's onwards when our cars looked way better lol)

Speaking about muscle cars not being relevant, we were on leeds ring road 'racing' (term used very lightly) a guy in a 68 charger, black one. Giving it a bit of stick between all the roundabouts, but we were both done over by a sprinter van lol. You feel like you are going well fast when you have a beam front axle on a single transverse leaf spring lol.

Yeah, so wide as they are designed to drive in tank tracks behind tanks. Not very good for out brittish type of off roading though. Ok on hardish ground i should think though.

BJS1, You were right, GT40's were built at 'ford advanced vehicles' in Slough. Crazy world eh. I guess when they wanted a car that handled right they came to see us plucky brits. Kinda makes me proud to be british.

Decent? I supose it depends what your after in a car.

I bought my Pontiac because it was cheap, it has a V8 under the bonnet (best sound known to man imo) and you don't see many of them around.

It's heavy and not outrageously rapid, but suprisingly does have decent brakes..
