i would have thought it would get bumraped

Just curious to find out the details of them

How would a 1.6 8v polo stack up against a 1.8 8v mk2 ?

think mk2 golf 8v GTi has 113 bhp as standard (as far as i'm aware)... how much has a 1.6 polo got, 75? the GTi would have a decent amount of torque also.

think the mk2 gti (8v) is 115bhp? i know the mk1's are and i'm pritty sure its the same engine. not sure on the polo tho, it may be lighter but its not a sports model so it would be built for economy over performance.

so to some up... seconded, a good bum rapping indeed.

Right that sums it up for me haha!

Wasn't sure on the bhp of them so cheers for the info guys

What's the 16v model like on insurance?

A normal 1.6 8v would get cained by a 8v GTI, mine is about the same at the moment if not quicker.

A 16v isn't a massive difference on insurance but they're worse on fuel then the 8v's.

Sorry i should of said, the 2litre mk2 golfs

mk2s are 1.8

the 16v mk2 gti's were were 1.8's mate, can't comment on insurance as every one's situation is different but when i had mine it was around 500 for the year, 26 with one years ncb. best all round car i've ever had as well, shit loads of fun and embarrassed some much 'better' cars. as mentioned tho they do drink but its well worth it imo.

this was my baby, still miss it and wonder what has become of it :(

Nope:

Polo 1.6 = 990kg

Golf 1.8 16v = 960kg

So an 8v is a little lighter then the valver so the Polo really would get dicked: Heavier/less power/less torque etc

hwo can a mk4 polo be heavier then a mk2 golf?! polos are actualy fat

coz all cars from 20 years ago were made like bean cans lol

really want a mk2 golf next but cant make up my mind between 8 and 16v there are more low mileage 8v but 16v go for silly money ill have 3500 but dont wantto spend it all

you wouldn't need to spend that kinda money to buy a tidy 16v mate...
