kerrly, would a mk2 16v starter motor fit and operate on an 8v?

yes all mk2 starters are the same except the diesel ones, they are still the same but more powerfull.

yeah I've driven lots of pretty quick cars due to working at a garage and i really want somthing to take a joy in and mk2 seems perfect the polos ok atm but its more low and slow lol

9a bottom end - £250

port polish and skim head - £350-£500

exhaust (mani,decat,system) - £500 (dont need a decat btw)

air filter - £40

good service - £££££££ depends how far you go, i spent £500 on a major service inc all the belts,hoses,timeing, fluids, compression test and a fair amount of replacing of things.

would mod

cams - Depends on the brand, degrees. Even a set of ABF would be a good upgrade.

plugs,leads etc - £100

new valve stems - Include it in the port and polish

ported exhaust manifold - £70 exchange

no thats not the reason fella , its because the polo has air bags , extra wires , lecy windows central locking , side impact bars , and safety zone , power steering . and all the other stuff a basic golf 8v gti dont have and dont need

i'd just get the 16v and enjoy it, then if you get bored start making it faster, they really are very capable cars. i'd tweek the handling and brakes before the engine tho, set of decent shocks and springs, decent discs, pads and some good tires and you can shake most things off round the bends. then if you really feel the need to chuck big amounts at it after that you can start on the engine.

if you do get a mk2 16v tho one thing you really must remember... you have to drive it like you stole it, if you drive it like a fagot you will think it is shit.

Thats all brand new prices, my full s/s exhaust system only cost me £100 as i bought it of someone at Storm Developments whilst i was there as it was useless to him as he had installed a R36 engine in his Mk2 Golf!

Just a good service, 9A bottom end, air filter + exhaust is a good 160+bhp everyday and the 2.0 will provide you with more torque.

you can do the same on the 8v as well , 2e 2 ltr bottom end , a cam , bit of head work , like my mates kicking out 150 bhp

which means the golf fulfills the criteria for being a bean can imo

and to acg - buy the car 1st then plan your mods

Quicker then G40s and better top end so yeah they are pokey.

Think i'm going to get a mk2 GTi again, it will be 8v for me this time. I'll give it a year and pick up a valver again.

That's for sure, they are in a different league to polos - i love the small blocks aswell though, tuned 1300's are very cool.

The G is the much better 'sleeper' car, everyone knows a GTi is quick so the Polo is definately better for anoying peeps.

They are both old though which really iritates peeps

Even better is a boggo 1.3 Mk2 Golf shell with a G60 lump under the bonnet.
