Basically my brother bought a mk5 golf gti brand new when they 1st came out back in 2005.

He got the the following extras from vw:

Leather seats

18" wheels

and 5 door.

Do these extras need declaring?

imo the 5 door is the actual car to i dont see how you'd have to ever declare that, because they know it's 5 door already. leather seats might have to be declared because they make the car slightly more desirable but i highly doubt many insurers would care... 18'' wheels... if they're aftermarket alloys then definitely.

The wheels are the same as the standard but just 18" not the regular 17".

Again these were ordered when the car was ordered along with the other options.

Shouldn't think so as they are on there from new and have come from the factory like that and have not been added at a later date.

If he has a crash then it will show that the vehicle came with these optional extras from new, mk3 polos have a sticker in the boot declaring all the options that were fitted to the car when it was ordered.

Yes they need to be declared, as I have said befor my father is a broker who had to deal with a claim on a Mk3 golf with VW optional alloys that were not declared, the insurance refused to pay out due to the fact it was not in standard spec.(You could say she was unlucky to get an assesor who knew the golf range well enough to know). Larger wheels and leather will both add to the value of the vehicle (there will be a seperate 3 and 5 door variant on the database) and also make it more atractive to low lives after a night of fun or for parts to strip and eBay. Remember insurance companied are in buisness to make a profit for there share holders, and that involves paying as few claims as posible.

yes declare them! All of them - as your boot sticker tells them it never left the factory with them!

Most dont cost you extra except the likes of wheels sometimes. Which deem it as more desirable to steal apparently

depends on your insurance provider really and how clued up they are or not as the case maybe.
