The G40 Broken Down/on A Recovery Truck Thread

Featured Replies

I'll start, all of these were in 2007, it had never been towed before and thankfully it's not seen a tow truck since.

March: split brake pipe on the A14 - caused by an extra long braided hose hacking through the copper pipe:

June: Interior wiring loom came unplugged on the A14 after being disturbed by me fitting a variable wash-wipe relay - car stalled at 70mph and wouldn't start again:

September: And then, because bad luck comes in threes, the oil seal let go after 2,000 miles, fixed under warranty though:

This could be an amusing thread!

It's been fine since, I can't really fault it. The thing is, all that arsing about knocked my confidence so I don't trust it like I used to. :(

Dirrt and MoneyPit can add to this thread haha

Harsh ginge, harsh...

This makes G40's look gash tbh, but fuck it, it will be a funny read

January 16th - Non starter

Got her towed to my mates unit on 27th January when he got back off being away, thanks to green schlag

"It just wouldn't start, it was fine yesterday, I need it towed here please" What I pay recovery annually for tbh

Outcome TBC, not looking good, could need a compete re wire

Twas a sad day and I did actually cry t'other night over her not being an easy fix, sad times

Mines not seen a towtruck or the AA thankgod BUT had the boost pipe to the ECU pop off a couple of times making me think it was serious and the fuel pump relay fail making me walk 2miles home to call for help.

Seems like I'm the lucky one?

What wheels were you running when you broken down on the dual carridgeway ? :)

Me? Adikt Speed 15x6.5. I know 15s aren't the done thing on Mk3s, but I thought they looked cool. They're still stacked in my parents' garage, I'm planning to sell them but I've not plucked up the courage yet.

TBH, despite the faults I think I speak for most G40 owners when I say the good times outweigh the bad! 8-)

Hell yeah!

i went all the way - barnsley to whitby. 5 miles from home and the coil went. I told aa man it was the coil. 10 mins of testing he said 'its the coil, i'll tow you home'!!!

hahaha,

i haven't seen many G40's on the road near me...but the most recent was sat on the back of a low loader

Mine has been faultless except from when the charger blew!

At the time I was having a "test of speed" with 4 other cars.

I know mines not a G40 but i broke down 8 times last week

Anything that could go wrong went wrong, i know what you mean about not trusting it as much. I wont give mates lifts at the moment incase I break down, it had some stick last night though and has been okay so I'm starting to love it again.

my GT was the same, never broke down init..but stuff did go wrong...ad hate it..then wander out after it'd been cleaned...and love it again 8-)

hahahaha^ that is so true... its so annoying when your pissed off with something thats wrong with it... you go outside it and see it cleaned and think ahhh sod it. Shes a beaut!

yep its been towed twice now , first was the breather dome , second was oil pump . the good times definatly out way the bad

Mines been recoverd twice,1 time melted piston, 2nd time sheared the diff gear teeth off. Not too bad for having racked up 74k miles in 3 years though so I'm not complaining! When its working proper, i forget all the things that get me down cos it is so much fun!

Mines been towed twice in about 4 1/2 years, once when it overheated and this one when it was loaded up to go down to PSD after melting a piston

I'm sure yours was down there about the same time as mine - it's been in the PSD car park at least once when mine's been there too.
