As the title says, my starter is playing up, have to re crank it a few times to get it to start, battery is good, its the starter i think that makes the horrible noise as if its stuck.

I will have a go a replacing , will check the earths first, any particular ??

Try putting a jump lead between the starter body, or local to the starter, and the battery negative.

Ok it's a monday and I was out in town last night but I'm really struggling to understand what this means:

I'm guessing he means inlet manifold maybe?

If so yes, will make it alot easier to get to

OK sorry for the duff title, the forum seems to put in punctuations where i dont want them, yes i meant Inlet manifold, ...is it poss to do in the air and leave the inlet manifold on??

Do you recon its the motor/solonoid, or a bad earth.

Whats an easy way to find out?? As i dont want to waste money on a new part really.

It starts fine most of the time , but sometimes , annoyingly, the starter fails and makes the same noise you would hear as if you cranked it when the engine is already running ??? Do you know what i mean. ??

If you attach the jump lead as described above and it starts ok without that horrible noise, the earth is fooked and will need sorting.

If it doesn't make any difference, your starters fooked and will need replacing.

Mine makes a funny noise once in a while just as the engine starts but has never really been a problem.
