great looking saloon

begging for a GT lump tho!

It'll go well soon enough mate

If only i had a decent job!, this build would be far quicker, haha. :p

As stealth said about banding the existing steels, its a great idea thats already crossed my mind, its just the cost of getting it done, 300 odd quid and thats before tyres :S

I'll see what i can do once i've got a few engine bits and bobs sorted.

Cheers all, Ian.

Update!

Had to do my top mounts recently so while i was at it i decided to give the front end a bit of a tidy up.

Refurbished the struts and fitted the new topmounts:

Cleaned inner arch (not pleasant :( ), painted calipers. Sprayed driveshafts, corroded sections of the arb, lower sus arm and balljoint, and the track rod/tre. Also was a good excuse to bleed the brakes as god knows when they were done last!

Mostly did it just for future protection, but tis nice to look at too imo :)

Funny how these little jobs turn into days of labour doing lots of other things that didnt really need doing at all! I wont even see any of the work either with the wheels on, but at least i know its done haha.

MOT in the next couple of weeks then its bike carb time! Manifold is being made at the moment and i have pretty much the whole setup ready to chuck on! Also gave the bay a bit of a clean up too, will give the engine a good going over when i fit the carbs aswell :

More updates to come over the next few weeks!

Oh and if anyone is selling a gt/g40 rear beam then let me know :)

Thanks for looking, Ian.

A touch lower would be nice, but more interested in the go rather than the show at the moment!

Ian.

still looks awesome on the new wheels

love loons really want one

this car is a beuty mate love it dont ever sell it lol :)

looks sweet!

Do your top caps on the front suspension sit out of the turret?

Just cant tell on the photos as i have the same lowering kit and the top caps sit about 10mm above the turret and makes a far knocking noise under braking

do you have this problem?

Cheers

Lewis

Think I spotted this parked by pitchcroft tonight, looked the same anyway 8-)

Thanks man.

You need new top mounts mate, your existing ones have compressed creating the gap you talk of. Uprated suspension kills topmounts! mine were done recently so are still ok.

Yea, i hear VW mounts are better than replica parts so it may be worth going for them.

Ian.

Sickkkkkkk! This is coming together nicely! Good work mate, love it

Mmmm, this car looks silky smooth 8-)

Thanks all, will try and update again soon :)

wow can i just say this is rather stuning, is it a spi 1.3? if so what sort of power gain are you looking at with what you have done, exactly what have you done, and roughly how much has this cost?? sorry to ask so many questions, just i would be intrested in doing this myself

thanks

Yea, its a 1.3 aav spi engine. At present it setup on a 'safe map' as it were, i.e, air fuel not exceeding 15-1 at any time. The ignition timing is also at base setting. It does however pull a bit harder than before and responds much faster. I will more accuratly tune it next month when i get a higher lift cam in, and if funds allow, another head which i will work to flow better.

So far the engine spec is:

Standard aav lump

custom inlet manifold

sfs silicon joing hose

yamaha yzf600r carbs (with modified main jets and float height adjusted)

piperX individual socks

viper performance oil catch tank

philJ 4-2-1 manifold

Mk2 tci ignition system

Inline fuel filter

facet solid state fuel pump (2.5-3.5psi)

innovate motorsport wideband sensor

As far as cost goes, it depends what price you get components for, and how far you want to take it. For example my oil catch can cost £55 when an upside down coke bottle can do the same thing.....

Theres plenty of threads about with great info about the conversion, mikeyMK put forward some great info in threads i've read which helped me out a fair bit.

Thanks, Ian.

Awesome stuff

SWEET!

Didn't realise it had been so extensivly modified under the bonnet Ian, I bet it gives some 1.0litre corsa's a run for their money.

Dig up the old thread! Back to standard engine-wise now bar exhaust manifold. Got a chip and cam arriving next week though to give it a bit more poke!

Not 100% yet but in the next few weeks i may be putting a 1.6 AEE in it (fully standard engine) which should be a bit of a laugh. Also need to go a bit lower with it but my old exhaust is just hangin off the underside so need to get some new mounts made up to lift it toward the floorpan!

Will update with pics as soon as i do anything worth documenting

Looking more like an engine now. Will possibly be collecting a gt box tomorrow to make some more use of the extra power.

Had to sort out the wiring loom too (not fun!)

DSC00805.jpg

Will be getting on with the conversion this week. Still need a key, transponder, immboilizer box, and obd port with wiring from any petrol mk4 to be able to complete the conversion parts needed. If anybody can help on that front, please let me know!

Updates sooooooooooooooooooon.

Thanks, Ian

nice mate, please tell me you are not putting the plastic inlet on with tht frying pan!??!? tell me about it with the wiring! i have this engine and loom for my mk2 loon, and its not fun,

what work u done to engine? and u putting it on the 1.3GT box? good luck with the swap over, i know how much of a pain in the arse the wiring is
