nice mate, please tell me you are not putting the plastic inlet on with tht frying pan!??!? tell me about it with the wiring! i have this engine and loom for my mk2 loon, and its not fun,

what work u done to engine? and u putting it on the 1.3GT box? good luck with the swap over, i know how much of a pain in the arse the wiring is

Yep, the engine will be factory fresh and running as it was designed to. I'll think about modifications later on. Never good to throw more complications into the mix to start with though!

I havn't found suitable GT box for sale so I'm just going to use my cl box for now.

Best get on with it!

Thanks, Ian.

Quite happy with the progress today working from 11-7 with a couple of breaks :)

Tomorrow i need to do the exhaust, driveshafts, throttle cable, coolant hoses, and then make a start on the electrics.

Looking forward to driving it!

Thanks, Ian.

looking good, will be nice to see it fully complete.

i see, thats a good idea with the mods and getting it running first.....

what di du do about sump clearance and the massive flywheel? also pics of how u mounted the engine mount? did u make a plate for it to sit infornt of?

i would be looking forward to it too, i will be plesantly supprised my the low end tourqe, stick it in 5, cruise at 60, time youself to 90 mate. i managed to get my ibiza (with my aee on a 1.4 box) to do it in just over 10 seconds. thats without changine gear btw. engine was standard too.

good luck with the electrics, pain in the arse! lol

Sump clearance is fine, still got loads of room. Used my mk3 cl box, aav flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate, and a 94 mk3 starter motor. Flywheel is so much lighter than the mk4 so thats a bonus. I just used the 2 bolt mountings on the front of the block. This seems more than adaquate.

Yea think this engine has near on 100lbft of torque so it should pull nicely. No luck needed with the electrics, just wiring diagrams

More work tomorrow and next week.

where u sticking fusebox???take it wiring diagrams are in haynes?

does look busy lol

nice work

nice progress so far, looking forward to seeing more.

Couldnt use the old loom in the end due to the guy the engine originally belonged to not including all the immobilizer equipment to allow it to work. Did try to bypass the immobilizer but a combination of guess work and terrible haynes wiring diagrams couldnt crack it.

Still after a glx loom etc to get my car working again. If anyone has a 6n glx breaking please let me know! cant do anything until i have these parts.

First test drive went pretty well tonight. Hunting a bit at low rpm. WIll go over the inlet tomorrow though as i suspect a minor leak somewhere. Other than that its very smooth and a fair power hike from my aav! the torque is brilliant.

Still got to properly secure the fusebox in the N/s dash section and clean up a bit of the wiring then its good to go!

Will get a few pics tomorrow of the *hopefully* finished article.

Thanks, Ian.

All in and running very smoothly. Just need a new manifold to downpipe gasket now and then it will be 100%.

It's a very nice drive and suprisingly nippy!

sweet nice car fella

I owned a mk4 with this engine before I had my mk1 2 and 3, I'm thinking that this would go well in my mk2, how nippy does it feel?? how easy was the swap?

Mechanically the swap was relatively easy. The electrics however do take a bit of thinking through and you will need the immobilizer components and key to run it. It is surprisingly quick; I wasn’t expecting it to go so well. The power comes on very quickly with having peak torque quite low down the rev range but it holds power all the way through. It’s a much nicer drive that my old aav aswell for just regular driving as it pulls all the gears effortlessly.

If you do the swap make sure you have decent wiring diagrams from whichever car you get the engine from and from your own car!

glad you got it running mate, and pics of the wiring under dash??? i have no idea where to mount my fuzebox

The fusebox and immob box fit underneath the glovebox behind the lower storage tray. No pics as its all consealed but once you run the wiring through the scuttle tray into the cabin its pretty easy to figure out where to fit it.

wooow that oem fresh

Thanks mate :)

Lovely scraping off the drive but i do quite like the way it looks. Can't complain for free either!

Ian.

very nice loon u got here fella would be good to see you at some shows when i get mine on road and get some pics together saloons ftw

Very tidy job on the conversion, airbox seems to fit the mk3 bay really well!

-Wonder how long that splitter will last though... Still if it was free, no harm in keeping it on till it dissapears behind you!
