Its now running on MS on a very rough base map (from a 1.6 mazda mx5!) but the main thing is that everything works as it should. Today is dash re-assembly, a small amount of wiring to the clocks, and a bit of a loom tidy.

Not a bad starting point if i do say so!

Over the next couple of weeks i will swap my insurance over to it, grab some new tyres, and get some propper mapping done out on the road.

Again massive thanks to my friend steve who has helped a huge amount with the ms install.

More updates soon.

Ian.

Top work as always!

You choose not to run EDIS after all?

I kept with the hall sender as there was just not enough room between the chassis leg and crank pulley to comfortably use that setup. The stock setup has worked with no problems so far though so i'm not overly fussed about not being able to convert to a vr trigger. The only other option would be to find a cam angle sensor of some description but god knows where to start with finding one to suit, or be modified to suit.

Ian.

Got you! I've decided to use the original pulley and weld the trigger wheel to the back of it, mocked it up and no clearances issues thank god. Not sure how easy sorting out the mk3 Alternator to keep it in line will be though, still yet to tackle that goal.

How do you rate the innovate LC-1 by the way? Any good?

A bit of shaving and spacing will see you in line I'm sure. Only a few mm to move across. Highly reccomend the LC-1, Very well made, and easy to glance at while driving. Hows your build going?

Ian.

Cool that sounds good, they've just brought out the MTX-L which is meant to be new and improved but I really don't like the look of it! Looks tacky as hell, so probably go for the LC-1.

My project has stopped for the moment, the last couple of months of uni have been very tough so not had time to even think about the car really. But end of the month it should be on the way again, I'm hoping the engine will be in by the start of next month; I have to wait till I'm 21 on the 20th june to insure it anyway so there's no rush.

How'd you go with the wiring loom? Did you use the original connectors from the old loom and just splice them on to the MS loom?

Yeh agreed, the MTX-L looks a bit christmas cracker. I used the original connecters where applicable and discarded any redundant wiring. You will be shocked at just how little is required of the factory wiring. It makes for a very neat, compact loom.

Here is a quick pic of my interior with the MS in place, the LC-1, and a TIM oil pressure gauge.

I also recieved my OMP upper strut brace for the rear and have some carpet to cover the floor area underneath.

Shouldnt be too long before i can fill the final hole in my gauge holder......

Hopefully i will be able to update soon, although I'm getting seriously messed about by a seller on ebay about the turbo i have yet to recieve! :x

Ian.

That's good to hear, I was a bit worried I'd have to go out and buy a whole new set of connectors!

Are you gonna run the engine as stock with boost?

Yeh, I'm not touching the engine itself as I am confident it will withstand a few PSI comfortably. Afterall the comp ratio is only 10:1 which is by no means high. I would like to know what the AEE internals can actually take but i cant find any 'I ran it up to this, and then this bent' type threads

Time will tell i suppose, and at least i have the equipment to keep it running as safely as possible.

Ian.

Good plan, looking forward to this

Running just a relatively low amount of boost on that engine with it all setup properly will make for a very nice mk3 polo i am sure.

Nice to see something a little different on here as well. Keep up the good work and the updates :-)

In fact work faster I'm sick of you not having enough to read/look at

**and to anyone with a mk3 polo..... coupe S steering wheel for the win.

Thanks mate, yeh it should be interesting to see how it feels. I'm working as fast as my wallet can let me! :p

Coupe S wheel is my favorite choice of OEM wheel in the mk3 aswell

On the downside some scumbag has driven into the side of my car and left, luckily only the passenger door is damaged, but still enough to put me out of pocket, and really, really piss me off. I mean whats wrong with people?, common f****ng decency out of the window. Anyone with a MK3 passenger door in atlas grey please let me know.

Thanks,

Ian

How are the boostings coming Ian? I must admit, my 1.3 has been turbo'd for only 8 months and I'm already looking for the next project..! I'm very interested to see how you get on with boost in this 1.6

Slow progress (as usual).

Recent developments have been hitting a drain through some roadworks and doing this:

2011-10-27213046.jpg

Luckily i saw my oil pressure gauge rapidly dropping so managed to shut it down before any damage was done :) The sump is now repaired and back on the car.

After over 20k with this engine the stock AAV clutch was starting to slip from time to time so while i had the subframe off to do the sump, i would make the necessary clutch upgrade for the turbo setup. After doing a fair bit of reading from various sources i found the stock G40 clutch can handle a fair bit more than the g40 gives it, and as this setup fits my AAV flywheel and box, i decided to go for it:

Frame off:

Old setup:

New setup:

2011-11-01170014.jpg

Hopefully this holds. If not, i'll be spending a fair bit more on an organic clutch of some sort.

I'm slowly getting parts together to complete the setup to go on the AEE and have most of the larger/more expensive components sorted now. I will be ordering many...........many more parts over the next few days until i have the whole kit to go on the car as soon as possible.

TIM boost gauge

Phil J manifold and downpipe

Clocked K03 turbo (not pictured)

Ebay 550mm Intercooler

Weber Pico IWP043 330ccm injectors

Yet to buy: A LOT.

I'll try and keep updates coming as soon as possible.

Ian.

Good job sir!

I love this! Nice car man, I did want to get a mk3 coupe for my first car but seeing this makes me want one!

Got my benchmark figure at work yesterday to know where I'm at before fitting the turbo kit next week:

2011-11-12124806.jpg

Made 90hp and 110lb/ft. So 15 up on factory figure and another 10lb/ft too. I'll post the graph alongside the turbo graph when i next get it on the rollers.

Just awaiting my oil lines (monday/tuesday) then i will be fitting it all and mapping it in.

Will post again sooooooooooooooooooooooooon.

Ian.
