Arch Enemy Rolling/flaring

Featured Replies

I'm picking up some new wheels at the weekend after selling my Ts, there 15x8 et 26 [even tho dub meister say there et30?? :?

now i need these as legal as possible!

as much under the arch as possible is needed

so iv decided, with an et of 26-30 its possible they still might poke a little

so i little arch rolling & pulling may cure this, even if its JUST on the edge lol

so iv been recomended arch enemy, had a look on their site

seems like theyve done good work, good prices & there based in my area so its ideal

the photos look good withn one 6n on there, but has anyone else had any experience with them?

like anyone got any pics of there car or able to link me to any threads or topics on the matter?

last i read on here there was mixed views, & i cant seem to find the thread

so, post up your pics, good or bad service, let me know!

Not speaking from experience but based on pics of their work i've seen, I wouldn't get them to touch my arches even if someone paid me. If you don't mind a funked arch profile then you'll probably be happy with their work.

There's quite a bit about it on E38 with mixed reviews too. You have to sign a disclaimer for whatever happens and you'll have no come-back. I wasn't too impressed myself with what was done on my mk.2 Golf, as one wing was stretched a bit out of shape, the rears that were flared were left quite uneven, too much was trimmed off my new rear G60 arches (now obselete), my newly finished BBS RM wheels has some small marks where the centre caps were lifted off and the centre cap rings were bent out of shape. I had to buy a complete new set of center caps as I could not get them straight and you can't buy the metal rings on their own. I then had to get them painted again. Now I know that the special centre caps were right buggers to get off, but I would rather him said "I can't get them off without bending and marking them, what do you want me to do?" then I could have said do it, or leave it, rather than just doing it anyway and messing them up. It was just as well, I was getting new front wings anyway for the respray I had after, but to get some more new G60 rear arch trims, the centre caps and get them painted cost me over £200 which I hadn't bargained for!

If you're aftera subtle arch rolling or flaring, then you'll probably end up with a better result, but the more arch clearance you need the more work after will be needed to get it looking perfect as it should be.

That was just my experience and there are plenty of people that have been happy with the work, but also others that haven't been. Personally, I'd go to a bodyshop that has done that kind of stuff before, as I think you'd be very, very lucky to not need any kind of bodyshop (straightening/filling/painting) work after it anyway.

it depends which guy you get to do it i think, some are better than others.

cheers josh, btw what tyres are you thinking of running? I think you could tuck 8x15 et25-30 without arch work if you run 165/50/15, but then you might get pulled for extreme stretch.

Best bet would be to run some low pro 195/45/15's, dunlop sp9000's have a great profile.

i had mine done and they were great!

i can't fault the service tbh

Flared my rears by about 2-3cm atleast to help cover my nines. Had to stop there due to the rust but they came out great

the fronts were done to cover the sevens a bit better too

Honestly can't complain and would defo use again.

yerr i was planning on 165,50s but then realized thats just asking for it! lol

& this morning i did a search on that amount of stretch & read nothing but dodgy stories lol

looks pretty nuts tho

so I'm thinking 185/45s when i next hange the tyres, but they come with 195/45s, so I'm guessing its not really worth buying a whole new set if the difference is only marginal, so the moeny i was going to spend on the tyres, can be invested on the arches ;)

so far looks ike people dont like them, scotty may i ask, who was the rep who did yours then? your from essex, may ask if they can get that guy over to me if you recomend him

did you not need any correction work then, no skimming or painting?

s-line i still cant find your build thread! not in your list of topics :/

streetsleeper85 had his done i think, the south london guy did his.

This is what a member on BMWowner wrote up

Following on from this thread: 328 BBS Rims - 245/40/17 rubbing issues

Faced with the above issues I decided that having my rear arches rolled would be the best way forward so after a bit of digging, and a couple of recommendations from members here, I got in touch with Phil from http://www.archenemy.co.uk

After chatting about the problems I was having with Phil he agreed that having the arches rolled would give me the clearance I was looking for. Phil explained exactly what was involved and said he'd shoot a questionnaire over to me via Email so he could assess the work I required and ensure there wasn't anything that worried him with regards to carrying out the work on my car. Sure enough 5 minutes later I received a quick Email questionnaire that he requested I fill out and send back. The questionnaire was very straightforward and was clearly designed to give Phil a general view of the condition of my car before he agreed to book me in i.e. rust / repairs carried out.

With the questionnaire completed I fired back at Phil and he booked me in for the 1st August (I had contacted Phil on the 28th July)

Sure enough Friday morning Phil turned up at the time we'd agreed . He spent the next 5 minutes or so checking my rear arches and inspecting their condition. He also checked where the rubbing had been occurring on the passenger side and gave me a couple of options:

1. Have a partial lip roll done - just enough to give me the clearance at the rear of the arch as only a touch more would be required in my particular case

2. Have a full roll done to give me plenty of clearance all the way around

He then said to have a think about it while he got his kit and to let me know once I'd made my mind up. To me this was an excellent sign as Phil clearly outlined the risks and benefits associated with both options and I didn't feel any pressure to choose either option . In the end went for a full lip roll as I wanted to be sure I'd have plenty of clearance whenever I had four people in the car!

With my choice made Phil cracked on with the job

As soon as he had my rear tyres off he called me over to take a look as he'd found a bit of surface rust on both arches - particularly annoying as I'd had one of the arched professionally repaired not 6 months back .

To my surprise he offered to use a grinding wheel on the inner lip to remove the surface rust, then apply some anti-rust paint and then finally use a high spec seam sealer to ensure weather protection......I was delighted and of course took him up on his offer!! At the very least it means it won't get any worse and gives me some time to get the car booked in to have them sorted again . He did say that work of this type was temporary and that I'd need to get them looked at properly in my own time i.e. he was not offering a cheap rust fix, he was simply trying to eliminate some of the risks associated with rolling an arch with an uneven surface due to rust i.e. uneven arch lip.

Phil also took the time to explain that there is ALWAYS a risk associated with rolling rear arches. He also explained that the arch would look slightly different after the rolling was completed - nothing to write home about but side-by-side you'd notice it. He showed me where the changes would be most visible and how I should expect the arch to look once he'd finished.

Finally Phil gave me a form to sign - the form basically limited Phils liability and again explained that there was risk associated with the process. Some people might see such a form as something to worry about, for me personally I took it as a good sign. Phil wasn't trying to say that the process was absolutely risk free (which it isn't) and was clearly outlining the risks - it was then my choice to accept that risk or he wouldn't be able to carry out the work I wanted. To me that demonstrates a commitment to ensuring I didn't agree to the work without fully understanding and accepting the basic, and in reality fairly small, risks associated with the work.

With the form signed out came the tools and Phil got cracking:

Work Begins

Surface rust removed and anti-rust paint applied

Seam sealer applied

With the rust removed and the arch protected Phil cracked on with the actual rolling:

drivers side pre rolling

drivers side post rolling 1

drivers side post rolling 2

passenger side pre rolling

passenger side post rolling 1

passenger side post rolling 2

So there you have it.

Overall I'm delighted with the work Phil carried out and wouldn't hesitate to call him again should I feel the need for some more arch work in the future .

Hopefully the above should give you an idea of what to expect when using a reputable company and may give you some pointers you could use to spot a bad one !

I'm guessing its all down to luck!

argh well as my luck has gone so far this year I'm not too sure haha

whats the worst that could happen with a roll & slight pull? :p

the more they pull the more work you will need to do to make it look right. i had my arches done by them and i really can't fault the lad that did it, he explained what he would be doing and the dangers of what can happen. of the 4 arches he did 2 came out really well and 2 not so great, but he had already told me that they would come out like that as i had tried to roll one of the rears myself and raped it lol, and i had fitted a second hand wing which didn't fit so well so when he was pulling it it was creasing slightly. to his credit tho he said if i get a new wing on it he would do that one for me for free if i came to him as he wasn't satisfied with it.

mine are still looking rough as i got him to pull them as much as he could and i still haven't got round to skimming over them, but they gave me the clearance i needed (well sort of  ), but i would defo use him again. plus it turns out he has a rocco and was a member on the scirocco register as well

hmm sounds promising then if you have good arches

i guess i will jack up the car & take a look

its deciding weather to change the tyres to 185s, or use that money to get the arches done

or do both :p

i will see how they sit when i get them at the weekend

any one with actual pic of the work? or comparrison pics between 195/45/15s and 185/45/15s?

There having a crack at my rears on saturday

The fronts are going to have to be cut and shut with a new arch completly though

josh, in all honesty, werent you pulled (in the end) for having too much of the wheel protruding (sp?) from the car???

forget buying extra stretched tyres imo and just get the roll/flare done so that TVP cant touch you, better to be safe and you can always get mad stretch next time.

i ran 15x8 et15 with 195/45/15 and the tread was under but i had about 2/3 of an inch protruding

my opinion and bit of what I've had
