Having a little problem.

Sold a 106 the other day, the car was fine they took it for a 30min test drive loved it took it away payed cash.

Fantastic right?

Well the V5 was filled in they took the new buyers side but forgot to sign my side. filled in the address etc.

Then i get a email today saying "The cars not what i expected could i have my money back" no reason for not liking the car at all just that basically.

I dont want the car back, i see no reason to give them the money back its not like i sold them a shed. But where do i stand on the v5 document?

I'd say it was sold as seen, the V5C isn't any form of receipt as far as I'm aware.

No, my mum wrote the receipt as i was out and she didn't. :(

receipt is a receipt....

tbh just sign the v5 with their name.. dvla dnt know what ther signature looks like...

i have had to do it b4...

as 4 wonting money back tell them to bog off!!

'Sold as seen' receipts mean nothing to be fair, and New Buyer forms are only so they can prove they own the car while the documents are changed over.

Without sounding harsh you have no respnsibility to give a refund if they've changed their mind..

Have you posted the V5 yet with yours/their details filled in?

I'd sign the V5 and send it off. Then tell them that they have to keep the car.

what ever you do dont take it back! i can't think of anything more annoying.

I shall just send the v5 off then. I didn't want to sign it in case they took it further and did me for signing there name. I will just send it blank, will it go through?

If it's a private sale, no chance. For all you know they took a few bits off it to mend theirs, stuck their knackered parts on and drove it for a couple of hundred miles in reverse.

cash is exchanged they have taken the car , they have filled the log book in , tuff titty i say , had this problem before , dont take any shit mate

the cars theres as soon as they drive away , they couldnt do it at a car dealer

don't sign their name, as could be taken as forgery, just put an x and send it off. i had a bloke who signed it off as mickey mouse on a rover i sold.

Don't take it back, it's completely unreasonable for someone to expect such things to happen anyway!

My thoughts exactly, who knows whats happened to it since you sold it, private sales are always sold as seen with no comeback or guarantee (unless the car is dangerous but even then the buyer would need to prove that the seller knew this), i've had to do tons of work to just about every car i've bought and she's complaining that the 106 has four gears and a clutch , i'd have done as you have done, send off the V5, ignore any more of her E-mails.

Buyers can be a nightmare these days, sold a pefectly good MK2 Granada last year and the guy accused me of having a dodgy MOT on it

I dont mind buying cars but honestly hate selling them and having to deal with idiots.

Well she should have been able to count the four gears and get a feel for the clutch to come back happy after her half-hour test drive!

Also, as far a you know know since she bought it she may have done a bank job in the car (unlikely) or tripped a few speed cameras (possible). Neither of which you want coming back to you.

Private sale - know the deal.

If she is desperate to get rid, I'd ask to see the car, give it a damn good looking over if its exactly what you sold her then offer her 75% of the money back. Then put it back up for sale for the same price.

By no means what you should do just what I would do to try and make a few extra quid.

Swansea and as far as you and the Government are concerned the car is theirs.

Fill in the V5 and post it tomorrow....

this is over a month old... i suspect he is sorted on this one to be fair.
