ok, funny storey, kinda both backs up and contradicts everything about this thread. All the mods I've ever done to my 6n have been to the interior, new seats, painted plastics etc, no need to insure stuff. I'm with Direct line btw. As far as i was concerned, i bought a standard car and insured it as such and drove it untill some dick ran into me. reported the accident and sent it in to repair. This was about the time i started coming on here where i quickly learned, my car wasnt standard. Panic set in. I didnt think i was gonna get my car fixed and thought i was screwed. So, i gets a call from the fixers, they have had to call in the insurance guy cause there is a problem with the colour, the previose owner had gone to town on this car. The insuranse company call me. On my car is clear lights, an exhaust upgrade, lowered (40) non- standad alloys (which i kinda knew tbh) plus some other cosmetic stuff. (just so as no one starts jumping down my throat, what i knew at the time about cars i could write on a stamp, I knew i wanted a polo because around my way id noticed some sweet looking polos and not so many standered ones). So basically I'm screwed right? yeah and no. I had to pay £280 to cover the previose year id owned the car plus £180 for the remainder of the year of the accident and my excess went up £200. so yes it cost me a lot of money which all had to be paid at once rather than spread over the months, but my car got fixed and i didnt get points or prison etc and i still got paid out for my injuries.

Lesson learned though. now everything is paid for coz i know whats what now and as i continue to work on the car i continue to declare, cause its cheaper and safer that way and ithe price drops drastically every year anyway.

When i called 1 company and they went thru all the Bullshit about excess cos I'm under 25... the woman said that combined with my " voluntary" excess it would be £800...which is fckin obscene

I'm with direct line and they say you cannot mod until you're 25, and I haven't modded yet.

However, I'm on my mum's policy as a named driver and she's willing to ring up and say she's simply put some vw upgrade alloys on, instead of steelies and hubs.

That's all I can afford to do at the moment, so hopefully they'll be okay with that and not up the premium too much!

welll i read through this thread and it sure gives out the correct message that it not worth the risk not to declare.

i have been putting off getting coilies for some time now as i thought my insurance would go through the roof and i didnt fancy not declaring.... but i phoned them today and they said it will make no difference on most moddifications as long as i declare... I'm 18 TPFT no NCB with a 1.4 8v 6n it costs £1150 or something a year , but i was well happy when they said it doesnt go up so i will be gettign some coilies soon!!! thats with Adriain Flux by the way!

I feel sorry for any of you with modified cars insured with Endsleigh.

I wouldn't insure my car with them if they fucking paid me. Money grabbing, disorganised, useless bunch of nice people.

I had a NON FAULT accident, and it took them SIX FUCKING MONTHS calling at least once or twice a week to get me any money.

It's all take take take when you declare your mods, then when you need to claim they cover you for a standard car. You'll spend 45 minutes listening to jingles while your phone call gets passed between one brain dead dipshit to another, then back to the first one.
