SVA is the ball ache, It will cost you a few hundred quid just to get it through that if it fails the first time, then theres all the other registering crap.

To be fair its not going to be very good at all for £2000, Most kit cars are more than that just for the kit! Your best bet is to buy some kit car mags and do your homework.

2k to build a kit car  if you can i will be poo

the best thing you can do is spend 2k on making your coupe go faster and leave it beaten up

the only kit car that i can think of is old and prebuilt ginnetta on piston heads for about £900 but it needs work on it , they use 80`s cortina running gear , they look ok , but the spare grand would not go to far . my dad built one the same , and he spent about 10k doing it propperly and could have easerly spent more on the engine and other bits

My Dad's Caterham is essentially a kit car, he didn't build it though.

And that was about £18000 when newly built.

i looked into building a kit car last year. Even building it yourself with basic chassis and a few other bits from the manufacturer then getting a donor car was crazy money!

robin hood rolling chassis about 2k plus a sierra engine and gearbox and a few other bits.

so not really that much

i know of a guy that built a ultima gtr, sposed to be pretty mental 450bhp an about save torque figures,

still wanna have a ride in it like :)

but wont be do-able for 2k

Plus 9 times out of 10 you end up with a car fit for your grandad. You could take it to a kitcar show and look at thousands of other cars all built with the same instructions.

BSJ1, i thought you were counting the pennies to get a cheap run about while your sorting insurance out for your coupe s....

where did you get 2k and the time to make a kit car?

maybe you could build this for 2k:

Build yourself something like a MG Midget ..

Not a Kit car i know but only kind of thing your going to get for that sort of money really ..

It's amazing how shockingly built some cheap cars are...I can't imagine how shockingly bad some cheap kit cars must be...

build yourself a 150cc go-kart, use a bike engine and g/box... raaaaaaaaaaaapid!

My mate built a Caterham Blade7...

Sorry but they're phone camera pictures...

Took him (and all of us) just over a year from start to getting it on the road. It's a

seriously quick wee motor....but it cost a lot more than 2k to build.

^ love that!

I'd do what I did again. Buy one that's been built and SVA'd, or built and registerred pre-SVA. Then take it apart and build it how you want it - far, far cheaper.

Though you do see some scary shit when you look at how people build them.

caterum is the only one ad get lol

my GT was in kit form most of its life..does that count?

Go and have a look at www.locostbuilders.co.uk its a great kitcar forum it was a great help when i built mine.

/\ front brakes look tiiiiiiiiiiny

doesn't matter when the car weighs 450kg.

I used to work building/designing kit cars. I'd rather not go back personally! One of our kits was £7k kit only or £19k factory built. The new car will be roughly £4750 kit only.

^^^that looks pritty cool, have you got any more pics of it?

if you've got 2k burning a hole in your pocket and want some car for your money then get on retro rides and start cruising the for sale section, theres some quick cars for very little money if you look around. i've seen 2 saab 900 turbo's with t&t for under £400, plus T5's and other cars that wouldn't normally come to mind when looking for some think quick and cheap.

or theres this, could be exactly what your after? click me.

One for the unconvential kit car camp
