i looked into building a kit car last year. Even building it yourself with basic chassis and a few other bits from the manufacturer then getting a donor car was crazy money!

My mates cost him nearly 9k...and that was saving money by

getting a few bits from my work on the cheap and from getting

some other bits from some Kit Car forums...if he added the man

hours it took us all to build it,it would be easily 11k and maybe more.

Its got a side exit! lol. The door looks a bit Suzuki SJ, infact the whole front does!

I think it's a Dutton Ranger...

Thought I replied to this yesterday, but my internet must have crapped out.

You're closer than most, it's a Rickman Space Ranger. Dutton built something similar (if inferior :)) called the Sierra.

The SJ parrallels are definatly there, the Rickman Ranger was a ford based replica of a suzy jeep. I had one, loved it, but felt cramped on elbow room. The Space Ranger is the longer wider version. At the minute, I'm just trying to work out how I'm going to build it next, done it once, but I didn't like the engine that was in it, the head gasket went, so that's my excuse to do the stuff I want with it. Leading candidate at the minute is a 2.0 zetec on carbs.

I like the GT40, Stratos and Cobra replicas but those are big money, they need to be spot on as well or it just looks sad, there was a Countach replica on Pistonheads (i think ?) for 10K, front looked ok but the back was totaly wrong, looked like it had trailer lights grafted on , had a shot of a Dutton B+ (Pheaton) years ago ( a bit like a Lotus 7), had a hot 2.0 Pinto in it, cammed with twin 40's etc, was scary fast, seen those for £1200 - £1500 complete and running, most need some kind of work though.

As has been said, doubt you'd be able to build any kit car for 2K, you could probably pick up a complete running old skool Dutton or Nova and get it sorted for 2K though.

Always fancied a beach buggy :-D , a short wheel base Rat or GP, would buy one complete and running though, seen a couple of crackers going on E-bay recently, from what i've seen 4-5K is the going rate for a really nice one, may sell my Capri next year and go for it

BTW check out the red beach buggy Wheeler Dealers built on Youtube, looks fantastic, looked surprisingly easy to build too.

I have also had this thought! got 3 SR18DET engines along with the matching gearboxes and rear subframes complete, all with LSD's. Thought it would be an awesome project.

my dads building an Ultima Can-Am (just the cabriolet version)

hes spent about 16k on chassis, alloy panels, BIGG brakes and a few other bits and bobs

but its gonna cost 30K-40K maybe upwards

but a roaring Corvette LS7 engine behind you with 750bhp has to be fun

long time till its mine though =[

i know of a guy that built a ultima gtr, sposed to be pretty mental 450bhp an about save torque figures,

still wanna have a ride in it like :)

but wont be do-able for 2k

My dad was gonna build one of them, so we went to the factory to get more info and had a spin in one, I think it was 650hp from a chevy LS6 engine... was mad haha! But then he decided on building a Cobra replica :-D

there was a company that did a Porsche 356 Speedster rep with a scooby engine in the back it looked like a lot of fun
