when my car isn't running its fine, but when i start it up it starts like thumping and when i accelerate it makes a really high pitch whine! I'm worried that i will blow my system so i have unbolted my powerfeed at the battery, i have moved my RCA's to the driverside, powerfeed down passenger side, tried various locations on the battery for the powercable, I've tried bolting mthe earth onto various locations, and I'm starting to run out of ideas, iv had the same system in my last 3 cars and this is the first time I've had this problem!

Try sanding the earthpoint to bare metal

yeah.. what mike said.. i had this problem with the same set up as you, first thing i did was to find a more suitable earth point. solved it.

i have tried a couple of difrent earth points but i will try this tomorow and let you know how i get on!!!!!

You wanna sand the metal right back, removing all the paint and make sure the earth is bolted down as tight as possible.

sanded it down tonight, seems to be ok at a quick test..... willl give it a proper test tomorow on my way to work!!!!

try another amp!

i had this same fault with an amp, swapped out for another and it was fine.

there was some earth fault within the amp! opened it up, but could never find anything wrong

I use the bolt on the back benches worked like a charm.

Same thing is happening again, guna screw a ply pannel to the back of the seats and hopefully if it is the amp then it will have to earth through the cabling as aposed to the body of the amp!

and fuck buying a new amp!!! not got the money!!!!!!!!!!!!

even does it when the car is switched off!!!!!!!!!!

Make sure it is fully fused and earthed properly last thing you want to do is blow a fuse n fuck it all up, like i said before get the earth wire and take off the back screw behind the back seats easy to get to in the boot use an allan key and then put the wire on there works very well

the plywood panel seems to have stopped the interfereance and i very rarely get a barely audible whine, but thankfully the thumping from the sub has stopped!!!!!!

i'm confused.... just becasue you had it screwed into the metal on the back of the seats, it shouldnt just dissapear from putting plywood inbetween the amp and the back seats, neither should the amp bea earthing itself through the body of the amp....

i would be seriously worried about how youve got all that wired up!!! seriously!

my thinking about how its solved it is because the amp was probably earthing through the casing of the amp, but putting a plywood panel betweeen the seat and amp has broken the circuit and means that the amp HAS to earth through the proper channel!

and to answer the second part of your question, i DO know what i am doing with car stereos, thish is my 4th car that i've had a sound system in, one of them even won the local Ice install competition for being the loudest and best sounding install, so I'm fauirly sure i do kniow what I'm doing with a stereo!!!!

nah i have them run down oposite sides of the car, but you are correct in saying that you get interfereance like this

i dont really do installs to be showy..... i just make them so that they sound good! :-D

but there is a photo of my first polo (the one i had the loudest install in) in the members photo gallery, probs will be towards the end of it by now!

(EDIT) just took a quick look just now, photos are no longer up in my members area, but il see if i can find them next time i have access to my girlfriends portable hard drive!!

NO NO NO the amp should never earth itself through the body of the casing!! that's just stupid!! and if thats what it was doing then i'd never use it again till its been looked at beacuse now if something touched the amp my mistake it'll earth itself to whatever it can and could cause a fire!!!

NOTHING SHOULD EARTH ITSELF THROUGH THE CASING OF THE AMP ! ! !
