hi guys, I'm 18, and having extreme trouble in finding a reasonable insurance quote.

ok, i admit it isnt going to be cheap,

I'm 18, had license since 11/2007.

I'm looking at a passat estate 98-2002 diesel 1.9 i guess the smallest is.

Basically i need an estate, due to expanding family..

I'm currently a customer advisor for SONY.

but insurance quotes coming back to me are up at the 2.5k region, I cannot go in anyones name-(damn family!!)

so needs to be in my own name, i have no NCB. ARGH!!!

anyone know of any occupations that could lower premiums?? i dont mind giving *cough* false info...

any help would be VERY appreciated.

but when i was doing insurance on my (dread to admit it) Punto 1.2 when i passed my test,

the quotes online were cheaper than on the phone, even with the same companies :(

just tried doctor, and its £200 more expensive, thanks anyway mate.

Bell insurance? They're pretty good for young drivers. Also Admiral/ Elephant. Stick your rents on as named drivers, should bring the premium down a little. Don't give false info, cause if you have a big crash and they find out that you lied, you won't get a penny!

If you go on moneysavingexpert you can put in your job and it will come up with similar job titles that may save you a couple of quid...

If this is the case why dont you insure the car as a 1.2 Renault Clio. That should save you quite a bit.

Actually... no, better idea, dont bother insuring it. That should provide you with approx 100% saving of your quote.

EDIT: Polophil is right in that if you are an IT technician you might put yourself down as a computer programmer, or computer engineer, or computer analyst, and you do sometimes save about a fiver.

You are not, by any stretch of the imagination a Doctor.

Call your insurance and tell them what your job really is.

....your right, thats very simple.

Try direct line, and ask family members to change their policy to a direct line one. Think i saved around 10% on overal insurance cost.

Worth a look...

Also try insuring the car at the end of the month, car insurance company's will often lower the price of the premium at the end of the month to meet targets.

ditto, bell admiral and elephant are all th same company and they give me really good quotes, also my mum brings mine down loads

try a vectra. years ago i got a price for a cavalier and a passat. similar spec and the cav was a lot cheaper.
