Had A Productive Day...

Featured Replies

Picked up a set of Yamaha R6 bike carbs with an AEE manifold attached to it during the week from twin40racer (cheers dude) and set about fitting them today.

Couldn't believe how easy it was to fit on to the engine to get it all running.

Got a bit miffed at one point cause we didnt know the carbs fuel from the bottom. Made sense to us to fuel from the top and let gravity do the work.

Had it all running within a couple of hours from starting.

Took it for a little run and it pulls so much better. Just have to get the carbs all set up properly know so its not drinking fuel!

Pic!

Excuse the vauxhall battery. Its off my rally car cause mine died :(

what ignition you using?

nice one, certainly a shame i needed to sell them. They sound great 8-)

I've only driven it around the block and it feels it has alot more torque and pulls harder.

what ignition you using?

Using the standard ignition. Got the ECU still telling the engine to spark. Just dont have the fuel rail and injector leads

You should see 25bhp+ with them setup properly

get a vid of them when they're set up i want to hear them

Didn't realise you could use the standard stuff, thought it required the fuelling aswell to tell it when to spark.

Looks good though, can't wait to get mine done now lol

i thought u needed to use mk2 polo engine loom and do away with the engine management to run bike carbs... i haven't got much of an idea though but looks good!

aye thats what I thought, and will be doing to mine....

Thats what alot of people think. Spoke to a couple of mates who have 205s on twin webbers and they couldnt see how the bike carb setup required a diffrent instalation. Only thing were wernt sure on was if it would run without the throttle position sensor in the loom. But it fired up first time without it!

Managed to use my standard throttle cable aswell which was a bonus. I'm using a king filter regulator between the fuel pump and the fuel inlet on the carbs to reduce the PSI.

Still cant believe how easy it all was to get it all running. Just got to find someone local to set them up properly cause my fuel comsumption atm is rubbish!

Drove the car a fair few miles tonight and I can really notice the diffrence. Feels just like my old 6n 16v but sounds 100 times better. Its funny that some people just think I have a huge air filter haha

make a vid i want to hear them

I'll try and get my mate to make one tomorrow and upload it for me

Hmm that's interesting then, might have to try mine with it then before the mk2 stuff. Only thing that I can think of maybe being a problem without the throttle position sensor is retarding the ignition when engine is under load, as in going up a hill with throttle open alot but engine not reving as much as it normally would. But then it would retard it anyways, so I'm not overly sure  I'm just looking into injection systems too much :?

Look ace they do mate, i thought it might of been abit of s psin to set-up and get running right tbh, top work...

cheers man!

Hmm, interesting. If you have no advance it won't run well, how does it advance up with that ignition system ,TPS?

Oh and they're Yamamha R6 carbs mate.

Do these engines have camshaft/crankshaft sensors? Only other way I can think of for the advance

When the engine is reving higher, everything is obviously going faster, like pistons going up and down quicker. The spark is set before TDC so the flame front, from the spark igniting the petrol, hits the piston just after TDC as this is the most optimum point to push the piston back down. When things are going faster if the spark doesn't move, the point where the flame front hits the piston would move further away after TDC meaning its not performing aswell as it should. Advance basically moves the spark away from TDC the higher the engine is reving so that point where the flame front hits the piston always stays near enough the same.

8-)

Was speaking to my mate today who fitted them for me and is also a mechanic. He said that when I put my foot down i'm opening up the carbs and the engine acts like a vacum so it draws more air and petrol into the engine. So when on a hill if the car is reving harder its drawing in more fuel and air. Drove it last night and a bit today and have no problems with it.

They sound awesome when I pull away and give it some. Puts a big smile on my face. Althought as they are not setup right its drinking alot of petrol. Got just under 50miles to a £10!

Nice battery haha

50 miles to £10 isn't that bad mate, i think i'm lucky when i see that - and if you were "testing" it, that is pretty good.
