hi guys,

just wondered if anyone could help, i know lots bout my polo in general but wiring, and electrics is another matter......i have some really good speakers [1000woox] from my stereo system in my room...want to put in car boot [customise.style later], however no idea on fitting the wires or setup. etc???

where to connect, wire extensionneeded, etc??

my mate got his speakers in and they aint half bad....my speakers sound quality is awesum so want to defo fit, thou the wire isn't long from the speaker unit [as you can imagin...

any help/advise/comments/etc welcome......thanx for reading red

don't bother the impedance(ohmage) will be too high and cause the h/u to get hot

just fit some decent fronts and a sub

also you say they are a 1000w max

realistically the continuous(rms) power will be around 2-300 rms

and you want to run them off what exactly the h/u??big no no 2-300 rms speakers 12watts rms h/u?? you do the math way underpowering and therefore you will eventually blow them up

house speakers are 240v!!!!!! not 12v like in your car!!!! put some mony aside and just buy a nice incar system!

4chl amps £60 to £100.

2chl amps aprox £60

but if you serch ebay you will find a few good deals!

voltage isnt a issue its the impedance they will be 8 ohm not 4ohm most likely as trouble starter said.

Problems arise as there is an difference in resistance(8 ohm house speakers and 4 ohm car speaker) . When you add in house speakers into your car in addition to 4 ohm speakers, the extra resistance in the house speakers will cause them to be quieter than the others. This causes you to turn up your stereo and then blowing the 4 ohm speakers, which will have been receiving twice as much current as the 8ohm speakers. Using different resistances can damage the head unit.

There is an easy way to convert an 8ohm speaker into a 4ohm speaker. I have explained the principles below

If you have a circuit designed for an object of 4ohm (e.g car speaker) then you put a 8 ohm resistance in (e.g house speaker) the current will be halved as it has to work twice as harder to get past the object.

If you put another 8ohm resistance in parallel to the other 8ohm resistance (e.g another house speaker or an actual resistor), now although the current has to work twice as hard to get past the 8 ohm resistor it has two paths to follow this means that this part of the circuit now has an effective resistance of 4 Ohms.

This will correct the imbalance of the circuit to protect the head unit

If you decide to use a resistor please note that this will not increase the volume of the speaker it just makes the circuit safe for the head unit.

If you decide to put another 8 ohm speaker in parallel this will also not increase the volume of the individual speakers, but because there are now two the overall volume will be louder. <-- This Is The Best Option

So you can put 8ohm house speakers in a car but they will not be as loud AND you MUST make sure that you have used the parallel circuit technique to reduce the over all resistance of the circuit.

I have done this and it sounds really good and looks fine, but if done badly can look cheep & tacky.

If you want the image to go with the sound buy proper car speakers.
