Just bought an Alpine sub with 2 '2 Ohm' inputs.

The amp i have has two +ve and two -ve speaker outputs.

I've read the manual for the sub and the diagram shows that only two speaker wires are needed for the sub.

BUT can i use all the outputs on the amp and have 4 wires into the sub? In a similar way to bi-wiring home audio stuff? Would it work, and more importantly would there be any benefit?

And if not, why does the sub have two sets of 2 Ohm input sockets?

It has two different inputs on the sub because there are two voice coils. So you can wire it up as a 4ohm (series) or 1 ohm (parallel). 1 ohm will make the amp work less so can produce more power, if the amp can drop to a 1 ohm load safely. Can your amps output be bridged? Do you have a part number for the amp? really you wouldnt want the sub hooked up to a left and a right signal on seperate voice coils, they should be wired together because if you have different sounds on different sides then the voice coils will play differently. You want the exact same signal going to both voice coils.

Sounds like id be best off just following the manual. I'm clueless really.

Reading the amp manual i dont think it can be wired for 1 ohm (summit along those lines...)

Seeing as it can drive one channel it must be bridgable (The amp) find out what terminals you need to connect to make a bridge then connect the positive on the amp to 1 of the coils positive, then the negative on the 1st coil to the positive on the second coil and the take the negative on the second coil to the amps negative. This should bring you at 4 ohm impedance.

Ah, thats the same setup as in the manual. Thats how ill do it then.

ohms can sound complicated(well, i still cant get my head around it all) but just follow the diagrams and you'll be ok
