Just a quick question that would make my life soooo much easier if answered.

Is it possible to make my mk3 polo, learn the code of my new transponder chip key, without taking it to a garage...i.e some cars you flick the ignition, then the headlights followed by the hazards or something and it learns the new chip code...

Theres a small chip inside the key, and veedub quoted me 80 quid to get it done, excl. parts. If theres no way ill have to treat myself to a tech2 or something of the similar....

I just got a key cut for my G40 from a local shop yesterday mate for

£6.99 and it starts the car no problem.I've never heard of a MK3 having

a transponder in the key....

Maybe he means what we call a mk4?

What year is your polo?, you sure its not a mark4 1994-1999? I'm 98% sure mark3's don't have chips.

Its only us on here that probably refer to each model as we do! lol.

WHat we call the mk3 is the mk2f and what we call a mk4 is called a mk3.

Its an r reg open air. I'm almost certain it has a transponder as there is a small black chip in the key about 2mm wide and 5mm long, yet no battery or anything

You'll have to go to Volkswagen I'm afraid.

Go round there and speak to a tech in person, he might do it privately for you

Timpson do them, not sure how much for but it aint cheap. They did my saxo's keys and they have transponders in.

So theres definately no way to let the car code learn myself? I though it was illegal for manufactureres to make cars in this way... i.e. everything has to be able to be fixed by the user....

I may be mistaken though

You wouldn't want just anyone coding a new key to your immobiliser though would you?

you need the chip programed

done go to a main dealer

locksmith i work at can do them

do you have a working key at the moment?

Cos the chip can be copied, i have had two copied, cost about twenty notes to get done. And not at main dealer- any decent key cut place can copy chips too.
