hi guys,

well i have a mk4 golf which i have had for a couple of months now... swapped it for my old MK2 which was spotless! Anyway I'm looking at getting a polo 6n as i prefer the look of them more!

About the Golf...

I use it as my daily as my mk2 jetta is off the road, and it drives well but it needs visual work doing really... I have done the majority but the previous owner tried ratting it by painting it nato green and painting a german flag on the bonnet lol ... however he didnt prepare the surface before and now i have peeled it off again! Underneath it is silver and in good nick (except the bonnet which is foooked and would need to be replaced or either resprayed... the door stripes have been removed and looks like hes started to smooth them but it would need to be started again and done properly.

The boot lid has been completly debadged well but needs spraying up.

I have nearly finished removing the paint without damaging the silver underneather and i have put new bumpers on the back and front (with anniversary valance). It is also on gti alloys.

Its a 1.4 so good on insurance and fuels not bad either... and as it the 16v dohc engine its pretty nippy too...

the interior needs a bit of work too, but i have bought a set of cream leather door cards to put in (I've done the back ones but need to do the front ones now. needs a roof lining as someone caught fire to the passanger seat but it didnt cause any serious damage luckily just cosmetic (door cards, roof lining, and the seats, the seats and carpets are replaced now.

At the end of the day it is a bit of a mess but with some work it could be a nice car... i bought it planning on sorting it all out but i dont have enough time to do everything really so for anyone with time it would be a good project :-D your welcome to have a look, its good opurtunity to get hold of a mk4 golf cheap because they are still quite expensive at the moment!

I would be interested in a swap for a polo 6n or £899 ono

or what have you got at about 1.4 or below engine size?

hi mate, sorry was a bit brief above,I'm in Bath nr bristol, the tax is untill end of june and mot is due sometime in june.

milage is 116200 at the moment but i use it daily so it will increase slightly.

it has loads of history with it i got a book full of stuff that has been done like gearbox change and receipts for loads of other bits, the guy told me the engine was recon'd but i dont have any proof but the engine drives sweet and it also handles very well, a pleasure to drive really.

I forgot to mention it has a very expensive cat 1 clifford alarm system, with remote start and loads of other anti theft features like anti jack up detection etc. i got the manual with certificate and all the codes and full spec list. i think the system all cost over £900

It currently has an inherant problem that the dohc 16v 1.4 has, which is the seal between the cams (which act as the rocker cover because it is on top the block) and head deteriorates vw dont actually use a gasket but instead use just a liquid sealent, and as a result engine oil from the cams escapes through the gap and leaks on to the spark plugs, it sometimes takes a while to start becuase of that and the oil on the plugs making it misfire, but once its going its fine... however i am getting this fixed on thursday by a vw specialist and i will have a reciept to prove it so it should be fine then, i will probably change the plugs too as they might be a bit oily i suspect. Apart from that mechancially its alll good, drives very smoothly and gearbox feels very good.

I aint gunna lie though and say it looks amazing on the outside because it doesnt at the moment (certainly different lol ), but with a little work it will look great I'm sure, i have nearly finished the paint removing but it shouldnt take long to finish...

since photos were taken i have taken more paint off the sides and the roof is completely clear now :grin:

quite easily really belive it or not! :-D either hot water or a steamer (i used a wall paper steamer) and then peel it off with a CD, i use a cd becuase that way it doesnt scratch the silver paint underneath.

mate you should well just prime it and spray it matt black you'd get more for it no doubt

need this gone as soon as possilbe as i have found a polo and need the cash
