15"s On A Mk3?

Featured Replies

what are peoples opinions on 15" rims on a mk3 or GT. Encounter many problems running them that big? Not seen to many pics on here, but sure there are some floating around...

I ran 15s on my GT for years, and had very limited problems tbh.

The rear arches were rolled flat, but the fronts are still standard. I carried a G40 engine back from Penistone to Cardiff, had four friends in the car (yes, five in total) and so on without problems.

It does depend on tyres though. I ran Falken ZE502s and Bridgestone RE720s which were fine, but the Goodyear Eagles I ran until I took them off caught on the suspension platform under really heavy cornering, but that's only on track.

I've not found going down to 14s has made much difference to the way it drives, the steering is lighter though.

Visually, 15s only really work if they've got a decent lip or they look too big. But I liked them, better choice of tyres than 14s as well.

i had 15's on my old GT

15x7 lowered 60mm all round

they will rub if you have people in the back

but apart from that there fine!

had 15s never rubed once , was lowerd 60 mm aswell

imo too big for a mk3, although neils pulled it off pretty well, i like bbs rm's though and they only come in 15s... wudnt have minded tryin some out tbh

Most people like stueyb/tractorboy/roly 'Sebring Edition' GT.

Offsets are crucial here.

I've been running 15x7 ATS cups ET28 with a 195/45/15 and it's been pure grief tbh, don't get me wrong they look the tits but needed a fair bit of arch work to stop em scraping (down60/40 on H&R cup kit) and even then rear seat passengers are a definate no no.

If you want trouble free 15's make sure you get something in the ET 32-38 range and a 7" width max and you should be fine as per the testimonies above.

I myself have had enough of it so am going back to 14's (ML's), definately handled better when I had 14" bbs's before.

Each to their own though.

Cheers.

yeah mine were 7j and et35, perfect, couldnt have any less on the rear.

my g40 used to have 7 x 15 et20 ats cups on it when i bought it. Was a poor quality ride, used to skip all over the road etc. Couldn't believe the difference when i stuck some standard bbs's on!

on a side note, when was that photo taken neil, as the gt on the bottom left is one of my old ones!

RIP? what do you mean, its still alive isn't it?

I had 15s on mine for a bit, standard height and it was fine!

iv got 15's on my mk3, standard height and they look fine, fills the arches nicely, obviously depends on your tyres aswell though.

Mine on G60 steels with 195/45/15 A539 Yokos (front) and nankangs (rear!!)

Catches the arches on big bumps but apart from that are fine.

Cheeky git! After having my GT, decided to keep the suspension standard on this for the time being as to not fuck my back up again! May buy a H&R kit when i have the funds tho.

What Make/size alloys are they as i cant figure out what they are and I'm new here

Thanks Luke

Also niceguyeddie you play forza right ??

Those are 15x6.5 Adikt Speed wheels - I bought them about 9 years ago, they've not been available for ages. Currently stacked in my parents garage while I try to decide whether to part ways with them.

Well if your looking to part with them give me a shout, after I've lowered my Polo Coupe ill be upgrading to nice alloys, as it has some ruined 14" at the moment then adding a custom fitted stainless steel exhaust

I may be actually, could do with the cash! They're in pretty good nick, some light kerbing on them (and I do mean light, but in eight years of service they're bound to pick up the odd scuff!) paint's still nice and shiny and I've got three spare centre caps as well. Spigot rings and (iirc) a full set of tapered wheel nuts would be included.

All I need to check is tyres- the last time I used them was on an airfield. There's plenty of tread left on all of them from what I can remember but the tread itself is blistered from the heat of heavy use. Within 100 miles they'll look normal again I reckon. Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s, so good rubber.

Alex how much are you looking for ??

id need them delivered by courier as I'm not driving yet, awaiting my 17th lol

I dunno what they're worth tbh, getting them delivered by courier will cost about £30 if I remember. Where do you live?

I live in North Wales in Rhyl :p

these are the alloys I've got at the moment
