Any Solidworks Users On The Forum?

Boring Bit

Now we know there is quite a few photoshop capable folk on the Forum and some are pretty darn good on it!

But is there anyone here who uses Solidworks or other 3d packages? For fun, uni or work?

I first started using it in September when I started my Transport Design course at Huddersfield Uni and, well, heres some of my work!

First Project: Lego Racer

As anyone who knows the programme can see theres quite a few component errors :D

Second Project: Landrover Defender

Once we had assembled the base model we were aloud to make some "modifications" :)

Starting to render it up

Heres A separate assembly of the wheels on the Defender, as you can see in the left hand coloumn it is an actual 3 piece split

Cut away shot just to give you a better view of the detail

Personal Project: Wheels

So as a bit of a wheel whore like many on here I've started to build up a portfolio of Wheels.

I know they're far from perfect but this was more of an exercise than anything...

Porsche 928's

And low quality render

I'd love to see what any of you guys have done so post up your pics!!

Any thanks for any C+C

Johnny.

Damnn, some good work there man! I used it all last year for my Product Design A level, don't have any pictures of my work unfortunately.

Haha good shit man

I have communication with Solidworks because of work, I work for a CAD CAM software house

thats some sick shit right there

make a polo pleeeease!!!! thats awsome I've started using solidedge, dunno if its as gd but seems reallycool tbf

Thats some pretty good stuff right there, you seem pretty capable with Solidworks

I've got to use it on my course, only things I've done are exhaust collector, some wing mirrors and other random bits.

Currently working on an air compressor so might put some pics of that up when I'm done :)

I've only just started using solidworks, and your work is amazing... have you used 3D Studio Max and Vray? the rendering finishes and material effects are far better.

sack of Vray, you need Hypershot Bunkspeed for rendering.

i think danny lee did a mk3 g40 on CAD, i forget what it was drawn with.

PIMP! 8-)

Aw cheers for the feedback guys I'm hoping to build up a portfolio of vehicle components such as ; wheels, suspension, engine components etc.

Hopefully gonna get round to making some more rims soon so I'll post them up.

And an interior mini animation coming soon.

Thanks man, I've not been doin' it long either! I haven't used either of those are they just rendering programmes?

Thanks again guys!

3dstudio max is good for mock building, like solidworks, but with less engineering so to speak. and vray is just a special software for it, that gives the model its material, it really does look awesome.

heres a couple of pics i found

VrayStudioSetup012.jpg

and here is a couple of rendering in 3Dstudio max with V-ray that i did for my 1st year at uni, was just learning with this. its a reclining lounger.

this is a little video of it, hope it works

I did Product Design last year at Hud uni, i made that lego F1 car too! Looks like you have the hang of it!

Changed course as it wasn't for me (doing multimedia and specialising in 3D modelling and character animation), i have used 3ds max for around 4 years now. Vray and Brazil are sweet.

Heres a few bits i have done for uni so far.

I did texture the skate park and room but my hard drive died a few months ago.

some nice work there.

I use Solid edge evey day in work as an aerospace design engineer.

have used solid works in the past along with catia,inventor,autocad,microstation,me10 and ideas9.

cant put my work up due to confidentiality.

Aw thats some really good work there everyone, I love it! the skatepark is awesome!

i do product design at sheffield hallam we use Rhino3D. Is solidworks any good? we've been given the opportunity to get it, is it worth it though?

Solid works is really good for product design, I never got into it as I prefer a more organic modelling approach.

I can imagine it being great for product design, I do transport design and in my opinion theres only so far you can go with the solidworks resources!

oooh just spotted this thread, i went to Huddersfield Uni for my CAD Degree, i was in with a few of the transport design lot too.

This is the rear bicycle hub i designed for my dissertation

transparentconcept3.jpg

took me ages to get the hubshell spline right (the yellow bit which you slide the rear sprokets onto)

The hub had over 200 points of engagment, a standard bike hub has 16/18

Excellent work!

Can you save these as 'dumb parts'?

I use Autodesk Inventor, and it would be ace if I cold import, or at least base things off what you've done there.

I think i could save them as IGES or some sort of DXF file, but my home copy of solidworks is abit shady. and i dont know the compatability between SW and Inventor. I know i had a serious ball ache when trying to get my SW files into Pro Mechanica. i tried every format possible ha ha ha.

IGES files would be fine, I guess. I'll PM you my e-mail address, could you try and send me one of those wheels, that would be awesome!

heres, a quick thing i did today for a current project I'm doing, re branding pirelli. all done in solidworks and using solidworks rendering

its a dumbell by the way haha

Heres my attempt at a jag etype for a project i did when i was at uni using solidworks... not particularly well finished when compared to some, however I'm a lecturer in CAD now so must have impressed someone.

i use Alias Autostudio and render in hypershot bunkspeed

i spend alot of time making components which is mostly wheels and brakes currently for current projects

thats all i've got on my photobucket currently
