I bought this a couple of weeks ago, and I've gone passed laughing it off now.

Sounds like I'm being an arsehole, but I'm afraid the car wasn't roadworthy.

I've listed the things wrong with it at the end of the thread, am I justified in putting what I have? It's just a car that's dangerous to drive shouldn't be listed for sale without listing the problems.

Maybe the previous owner didn't know anything was wrong with the car, maybe he did.

At the end of the day you as the new owner are supposed to check the car out before buying it. You seem to know your shizzle so why not spot it then?

blunt but true tbf, the good old 'Sold as seen' terms of the secondhand market. Deffo a shitter though mate, I'm sure most of us who had bought a few cars have had some shitters.

When was the last time you looked to see if the petrol surge pipe was connected when buying a car!

Its a pain in the bum when people lie so much selling cars.

When i used to live at my parents, next door neighbour would buy two of a car (usually ford escorts and like), fix up one and put all the rubbish bits on the other, then get his missus to totally lie to the dudes coming to look at it.

Now when i go to look at a car i pay absolutely no attention to what the people selling it say. The missus can stand and listen to their bull while i check the car/paperwork out.

To be fair there is only so much you can tell from an initial inspection and test drive. If there is anything that isnt right, i walk away, no matter how far i have travelled. I have had too many turd modiles in my life that have cost me too much!

Sorry to hear your story mate, sometimes a car reaches the point where it should go to car heaven! dunno if the peep who sold you it simply didnt know or was a complete slime ball.... its just a shame and probably cost you a lot of time and/or money.

I bought a G40 that was advertised with MOT, but when i got there it didnt have one and i was assured that it would sail through. Stupidly knocked the MOT price off the sale because the guy seemed sound and a VW nut, was only later i realised the true extent of the problems - damaged/poorly welded chassis leg, nonexistent sills etc. Had to sell the car on to someone who wanted it for the engine alone (tain's bro i think). Got an estimate of over £1k to get it through the MOT after a 3 page fail sheet!

I've not seen any lies in the advert as it vague.

you have bought a rat looking conversion - with conversions you will either spend every weekend under the car or you will find a good one, chance you take.

all the advert was based on were the components included with the car (mods, parts in the conversion), it said nothing about the "bad bits"

as said it is your responsibility to ascertain the true value of the goods before handing over cash.

as far as the dangerous to drive comment, why dont you do the mot history search thing and find out what advisories it had?

is it still down as a 1.poo on the logbook, if so you must have known you were buying a bodge job

I realise I should have done a lot more, last time though. Only thorough from now on. When I went to look at a splitscreen, I took a magnet to check the bodywork!

I also realise that I'm responsible aswell as the seller. Shit happens!

Gonna look good when I Nitro-mors the paint off though!

some people will really sink low for the sake of £150 or so and tbh id rather lose that money and be a nice guy

when i went looking at mk2 golf GTIs their version of FSH and my version of a FSH its very different it turns out aha

i appreciate its a bummer as i've been going through the same process on my g40 - however i do know not that its right... and i did get it for a decent price. if it was £3k then complain - £450 you got a car probably worth that in bits.

I've come to the conclusion that people aren't as caring when modifying/repairing cars as i am!

Just because its a club member selling it doesnt mean they are as anal as some of us when it comes to doing work on a car.

And the same with modifications. Some people have no clue when it comes to what is safe, or good for a car.

Thats one of the reasons i dont buy a car that is already or has been modified. I usually only buy very original cars and then do all the modding myself.

That is the thing i hate most about adverts, when people DONT do those jobs.

e.g blah blah blah just a 5min job and £3 part.

I went to look at a corsa for a first car yonks ago ad said it was a red 1.4 8v mint condition drive away i got there and it was a blue 1.2 8v that had been handpainted with house paint and the rocker gasket looked like it had exploded there was oil everywhere! Trust no one i spend ages looking over cars now but you can never find everything and for £450 you expect some things wrong with it.

inspection is vital when purchasing a car, but there are some things you expect to be fine, such as some of the problems stated, you couldn't have driven that car around and not know there were some major problems so he should have said, even if he wasn't sure what the issues were. It will always come round and kick you in the ass if you're on a forum as people speak about such things. I think there is reason to moan in this case as there were obviously things wrong that would be noticeable i.e fuel leak. Such things cannot be noticeable on inspection and quickly covered up...

erm did you not check the car over before you baugth it??? you could ahve easily spotted the probelms and walked away.

I dont think its dishonest or hes lied as such. He just simply might not of known

Looking at the state of it in the pictures though, id of been very thorough on inspection

Re-feed pipe that connects back into the intake elbow was disconnected, with a filter on the end - resulting in fuel fumes being released into the cabin.

Surge pipe from fuel tank disconnected - resulting in a massive fuel leak whilst taking any corner.

Stainless steel exhaust system leaking in 3 separate places, join, middle box and back-box.

Oil leak from engine - unspecified as to where it's coming from yet, hope it's not the head-gasket.

Gearbox mount underneath hanging by about 1 1/2 theads, resulting in loss of reverse, and having to hold it in 1st, 3rd and 5th.

Nearside headlight held in by 1 screw, wobbles like hell.

1. common mod to stop dirty fumes going bak into engne

2.maybe pulled off when puttin a new tank or replacing a pipe or su#something

3.low cars scrape the floor, what do u expect?

4.20 years old engines leak oil

5.these come loose loads had to do my mums about 3 times. takes 5 mins.

6. oh dear a 2 sec job with a self tapper.

basically the lamest list of faults i have ever seen.

i could see a point if the brakes didnt work or something remotely bad, end of the day u went and inspected it and still bought it, the person at fault is you.

I've seen under the loon and have to say from a mot testers point of view, I'm shocked!

the welding isnt complete, it has gaps in it, and looks like a pigeon has done its business!

the front hub nut spacer is missing!!!!!! resulting in to wheel rocking about, scott has two young kids wtf was the previos owner playing at!!! and the other thing i spotted while helping fix the fuel leak was one of the rear coil springs is basically hanging out at the bottom, o' and the exhaust is of a coupe,

its beyond me how this passed mot in its current state! it has a long mot aswell!!

takes the piss, i agree totally scott, i check my cars before selling to make sure there safe! when i sold my loon, it was on the ramp all wheels off in the brakes etc etc i checked everything and so did my m8, who was buying it for someone else! nothing wrong with it when ide finished

p.s. forgot to mention that the fuel tanks held one by one strap!
