Your Halfrauds Stories...

Featured Replies

As the title says.

I know there are some people on here who work at Halfords and not every single one of them is as thick as the majority of them. So apologies if anyone takes offence.

Anyways there's gotta be people on here who've had rather funny stories with the halfords posse, I'll begin with mine.

So I went into Halfrauds last week with a mate to get the Meguiars Detailing Kit and some of them Xenon bulbs as my standards are quite literally shit and I can't afford to get H.I.D's at the moment.

As I know someone who works there I asked him to help me (being the idiot I was as his a fine example of a Halfords goon.)

Me and my mate were having talks of winding him up before we went in so we did jus that.

I asked him if he knew where the Meguiars Detailing Kit was.

He then looked at me in confusion and answered, "Meguiars? They do the fuel additives don't they?"

I responded, "I don't know, I just got recommended it"

He then took me to the fuel additives section and began looking for "Meguiars" never mind the "DETAILING KIT" part of the name. After looking up and down on the shelf he then turned around and said "No don't think we do it."

Me and my mate then had a little chuckle and I then took the halfords goon to the car care section.

"Look!" I said, pointing to the "Meguiars Detailing Kit". "Does the DETAILING KIT not give you some sort of clue?!"

"Oh" He said, "Why did you ask me where it was if you already knew then?"

I then asked if he had the "Meguiars Heavy Compound" and once again he began looking. "No, don't do that one"

I spotted the SEL/POS (The price label with the barcode on etc.) and asked "Do you not think you better remove the SEL away then if you don't even stock it?" Working in retail myself I knew the corrects names for things.

The gimp then just looked at me, chuckled, obviously not knowing what the fook I was going on about.

"SEL?" I then removed the SEL myself and gave it to him.

"We can't do that, people won't know the price on products."

"If the product isn't there, then customers aren't gonna wanna know the price anyway!" I responded.

I then asked if he had Xenon bulbs and what fitment would I need. (I didn't actually know what one I needed). So he looked in the guide as to what bulbs would fit my car.

"Yeah you need the H1's." So as he looked in the guide I took his word, surely the Halfords guide couldn't be wrong. So I bought the H1's but couldn't be bothered to fit them as it was getting dark and so done it the next day only to find they don't even fit.

I took them back the next day, looked in the guide and found that they were actually H4 fitment. Where the hell had he seen the H1 fitment. Turned out he'd been looking at Golf instead of Polo! Idiot!

His car makes me laugh too...

Also ask if they do a porsche engine conversion. Apparently it fits and is only four bolts :p

Sorry your point being?

He was probably 17 and still in school, to be fair, he sounds a tool, but, if we all were to tell of every instance where we have discovered an idiot during our lifetime, and the come straight home, post it on club polo, in a manner that feeds our own egos, and then invite everyone else to take a pop shot and input their opinions, the world and this forum would be a pretty shit place.

If you particularly want to make a stand, don't shop there! I'm sure ebay/detailing world would have got you a clay bar kit much cheaper, shit topic imo.

Rich

same story if you go into retail everywhere

n pulling labels of the shelf is fucking annoying (y)

years ago i was buying a halfords own brand manual on the mk2 golf the one they did with maxpower or summat. and i hear a cocky prick behind me say "haha mate it wont tell you how to put a VR6 in it"

turn around and its an employee, in the OLD uniform (as it was about 9 years ago) - i said "really, i hoped it would tell me how to fit the ECU realy when using a 16v shell"

he looked a bit puzzled and didn`t actually reply..

payed for my goods and exited the shop - drove out of the car park and saw this guy crossing the road, shouted to him - "THAT MANUAL WAS AWESOME, SEE HOW QUICK I PUT A VR6 IN MY GOLF.... TOSSER" lit the home fires and ploughed off down the road.

next time i was in there he hassled me for a while about the car - had to leave as he was doing my head in...

i love the blag about the beetle!!

They do have one believe it or not lol. Doubt halfords would stock it though ha.

Personally I think you lot seem a little touchy about halfords. If I had a store that was open till 8pm then I wouldnt want to be paying more than minimum wage to my staff either lol, so you are bound to get some spanners. Plus its only a shop, they dont have to know anything about cars.

Personally as long as they put their stock on the shelves so can look for what I want and buy it then I'm happy. I dont go there for technical advice thats for sure.

That's amazing! I don't think even VW bothered to make one you know. :|

Either way, I've had some right corkers.

I think the best ones are when you go in store and ask for a product by it's name, for example one I had to get a few days ago; wheel spacers.

I went in and said to the lad "Do you sell wheel spacers?" The conversation went a little like:

Halfords lad: "Wheel spacers?...."

Me: "Yeah...wheel spacers........."

Halfords lad: "What are they used for?"

Me: "Uhhm...spacing wheels out?"

Halfords lad: "What, like alloys?"

Me: "*facepalm* Yes....like alloys, but it's a plate that you put behind it to push it out."

Halfords lad: "OHHH, I don't think we stock them mate."

Me: "Yes you do, I rang up and asked and also checked the website, you have 2 sets of 5mm RGM Hubcentrics."

Halfords lad: "Oh right, well let's have a look at the wheel section."

Low and behold, in a drawer underneath, which he fiddled around with for a bit, I spotted them, picked them up and left him with a "Cheers..."

I think the look on their face when they somewhat click as to what you are talking about is IMMENSE.

Possibly also the excitement they get when they get something correct and they get a little grin on their face. Haha.

seen worse corsa's tbh...

No it's just painted black.

Good point about the registration, but to be fair his got it on his myspace which is set to public so he can't be that bothered about it.

Sorry your point being?

If i was working in halfords (or anywhere) for minimum wage, getting people who clearly know way more about cars than me coming in and taking the pizzle out of me for not memorising where everything is on the shelves.... i imagine i wouldnd be that interested either.

Cant blame them really.
