The inside after the hoover and change of seats, the seats needed a serious valet before they went in to remove all the muck and mildew. It's starting to look better already! Next we need to find a large quantity of the missing plastic trim and a sunviser then the interior will be back up to scratch.

Glad its found a new home and it can get the care and attention it needs. I'd personally change the steering wheel for a Coupe S one as its a little smaller in diameter, and get some late Mark2 Coupe S Hockenheim alloys on there to make it look fully original. Nice work so far!

Personally I like the steelies, I might get them sandblasted and redone in gloss black. The car did have an aftermarket steering wheel on and I hated it because it was too small (plus I could only find a wolfsburg one on eBay!) and I don't think it spoils the looks. I have put my 8 ball gear knob in from my old car because it feels better!

We managed to get a set of G40 springs thrown in with the car so yesterday we did the back. Here's some piccies (that's me in the pics by the way!)

The car will probably be a little higher than it was when i'm finished but i'm not really a fan of stiff suspension as I do have to cross 5 very harsh speedbumps every time I enter or leave my estate . I was a little surprised when my husband undid the top nut the strut nearly flew out my hands because there are no retaining nuts and top caps for the rear suspension of a polo. Putting the new ones on was fun because it requires a bit of compression to get the tread to come up into the car so you can put the nut on! weird! Can't do the front yet because i'm waiting for an offset 19mm ring spanner that I can get into the top cup- an open jaw at an angle isn't enough to get it off (I suspect it was put on with a windy gun- which might mean superhuman strength is required!).

I think we might get round to washing and waxing the car today and putting an original stereo in (bring on the Pink Floyd casettes!).

I will be selling the lowering springs once we're done, so if you're interested pm me. They're in excellent condition and if the front are as good as the back then they have no rust on them!

Very nice, I'm jealous a bit of a dream car for me.

Fair play for keeping things pretty standard but with subtle changes. There's a lovely french black mk2 g40 on here which you might want to check out (can't remember name).

Love the stripey interior, would love it in Dennis the menace red and black for mine.

I've never dared to jack the car up onto those rear mounts, my mate reckoned they looked to weak but then thats just his view. Anyone else support their car from there?

The're pretty stable points really, I've done the same on my old mk2 golf with no probs too. We did jack up the car on both sides at once using the sills then put the axle stands underneath though. I always remember jacking up my old micra on it's central jacking point, put axles on its sills then watch the car bend as the jack was lowered- now that was horrific to watch! The polo does nothing like that.

Yeah I've always used those points for doing the rear suspension, absolutely ideal as it means you can get a trolley jack under the rear beam nicely for lifting it/dropping it.
