A mategave me two 8 inch subs. I want to mount them but whats the best audio set up I can do for under £150?

i beleive a mdf ported box :) if your good at that kinda handy work

What do you need from your £150? A box for the subs? Amp? speakers?

You can find an online box calculator to give you the ideal box size you'll need. making one from MDF isnt that hard tbh and will save you a packet.

All I've got so far is two 8 inch 200w speakers. Making a sub box isn't a problem both my brother and dad are really good at that and I'm not to bad either. Saying this, I spoke to my dad about fitting the subs and he suggested mounting them in the rear parcel shelf? Is this a no go?

Ideally I'd like the subs in the boot, boxed with decent amp. Speakers aswell possibly mounted parcel shelf.

The subs I've got were used as tunnel subs but i have no idea what that means.

He may mean they were used as part of a set-up where they weren't wired in?

no point in rear speakers. Better off upgrading whats in the front with bass in the back. A 4channel amp will run your subs (or a monoblock :-))

Id build a MDF box to house the two subs and the amp, and for two speakers well thats where the parcel shelf can be used altough I'm not keen on it myself,

I'm planning on doing a ghetto board style, where ill attach two speakers and an amp to a bit of ply so i still have my boot space, and as i dislike parcel shelves

So, If I'm only powering the subs in the back for just now is a 500w amp enough and how many channels etc? Whats a decent brand?

ideally you want a box that has an internal volume of around 0.6 cuft thats sealed

amp wise you want either an amp that will do 500 rms@ 2 ohm bridged(providing the subs are single 4 ohm coils)

or you could get an amp that will do 2x200 rms @4 ohm

the box is there for a reason , it would work but would sound crap as the box gives it the sound, depening on how much boot space you need, as you can go for ported or sealed , better bass out ported but takes up more room ,

and plus the box will add protection to the speakers as they will just be rolling round in you boot otherwise

right, I'll definitely get this done in the next few weeks.

I'm just going to do the subs, the speakers can wait for now.

When I buy the amp do I need to buy wiring kits and will I get instructions for wiring it through the car etc?

Also, the amp itself if it is 2 x 200w speakers will a 500w 2 channel amp do the job?

Could it work if I bought 2 X 8'' boxes then powered them with a single amp?

Right I'm away to buy the amp now and get it done. will a 500w one be OK to power 2 x 200w subs? and a will a 2 channel be OK? Will I also need a wiring kit etc?

Quick question... If i'm wiring 2 subs do i need two wiring kits?
