1980 mk1 GLS completely standard and original, even running all original 30 year old tyres :)

I have been the proud owner of the car since January 2009, only been the second owner from new.

The car was first bought new at the start of 1980 in part exchange with a 76 model L polo, so like me the only other owner of the vehicle loved the little buggers. The car was then kept by the same owner until just before I came into ownership, having had the car mot'd and serviced every year at the same garage for the whole 29 years!!!

The car is a GLS model, meaning it benefits from a much more luxurious standard of equipment and style. Apart from all of the standard GLS parts the car had a few select optional extras fitted from the factory when new, such as the passengers wing mirror, extra rear fog, and a higher spec radio.

Not long after owning the car I soon realised that the plans I had in my head of lowering, some rare split rims and a nice engine conversion were all off the cards, purely down to the fact the car is just far far to original and in excellent condition to warrant altering. All I have done since owning is change the tyres so that I now have not only two but all four original factory tyres (yes original 30 year old tyres), refurbish the original steel wheels, give the bay a good cleaning, under seal the car, as well as a good clean and tidy.

I hope you can all appreciate just how much of a gem this little car is as I do, as for the modifying, I'm sure you will all be glad to know I have found another minter, but this time it shall happen :) thanks for reading.

Sweet. Nearly had a mk1 myself (canary yellow iirc!) but wouldnt of lived with the lack of power.

Had just picked up my missuses new car (6n2 gti) and spotted a car that looked really similar to yours, thought it was a bit strange to see another mint mk1 in the same colour and all that, it only hit me down the road that it actually probably was you!!

Would have come and had a chat if i'd realised earlier (that is if it was you lol)

pmfg was that you in the mk3 golf, i was like tht dude seems to be giving me funny look ahaha, and yeh you are mrs 6n2 looked sweeet!! i said to my dad tht 6n2 looks wikid, i was on way back from picking up my mk3 that i got today, the white one next to my polo ahaha lmao yeh that was me, now atleast it makes sense why you where having a good look lmao i didnt know whether to nod or wave :)

glad u like the car and yeh the mk3 is a daily but u knw it shall b on its arse with sum poke, the stance on the gti looked perfect just ignore her and dont ajust it for her
