I've Come Into Some Money.

Featured Replies

Yeah, as the title say's,. i've suddenly come into a bit of disposable income. About 2k

And i'm going to replace my furious 6n2 1L. (which i'd sell to fund insurance/mods on new car w/e)

It's either a 6n2 Gti. (1.6 16v) Which on average, for the age/milage id be looking at are around the 2k mark. There about 125 brake. and insurance group 12 i think. But from being on here i've read alot about their gearboxes/pedalboxes being quite problematic. And i'd be looking to keeping the car for about 2-3 years commuting about 150 miles a week.

Or an Audi A3. I'd go for the 1.8 20v SE model. about 1998-2000 (non turbo, as i wouldnt be able to insure it sadly.) It's roughly the same power as the polo, maybe a little less. (2/3 bhp) and better equiped. But the deal breaker is that they go for so little money. And i just cant understand it. (which makes me slightly suspicious)

Looking on autotrader you can pick up a lovely example for 1.5k ish. Even less. And they are a lower insurance group.

Being 18 and a student this is all important as iside from now i'm mostly skint.

Sorry about the wall of text, i just wanted some opinions/voices of expereince (especially with the audi) I did try a audi forum but my computer wasnt having me register.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer, cheers!

A3's are very boring, even the 1.8T is dull.

Tbh being 18, how about you keep you car for another year of NCB then look at different cars?? Why blow this money now?

GTi gearbox beef is gay....

i got a diecent low mileage GTi on coilovers, full vag service history, few other mods and VGC for 3600

i wouldn't want to spend 2k on a gti unless you find a real peach for that price

save it :)

save your money till you can afford to insure something decent.

Blah, you might die next week, what good is the money to you then? except youll get a nice swanky box to be burried in  blow it all now :-D

Out of the two, id get the polo (if it was my money, i wouldnt get either, but meh)

Audi will be nice to sit in, but theres a risk of you falling asleep whilst driving :-p nah, i dont actually know, I've not driven either so cant say

get a g40

Get a nice Golf mk2 GTi

lol save up more if you can, get the polo gti, had one myself they are excellent. I didnt have much problem with the gearbox or clutch as previous owner had the clutch done as a re-call. tbh dont pay less then 2.5k for a gti, you pay for what you get. mileage is also important try to keep to 50/60k on the clock bearing in mind the timing belt has been changed.

allow the a3 crapppp lol

Get a G40!

a3's are dull.

GTI all the way pal! i had a Renaultsport clio before my GTI &

its better in every way!!

But i agree with everyone else, save some more pennies first &

build up your ncd :D

save till november and get the new POLO :D

Renualt Clio 172? Youd rather have a Polo Gti? :retard:

A3's are for girls, not that my taste is girly anyway haha but I wanted one as a daily... It wouldn't bring you any joy!

I'd have an a3 anyday, but only the latest S3 in white..which is obviously out of the 2k price range.

Get a MK1

You're used to 55ps in a car heavier than a 1992 Golf 1.8 GTi 16v 5dr.

Even a standard restored or mint 900cc MK1 Polo would feel nippier than your 6n2 and they are truly priceless.

golf mk2 16v gti

golf mk2 16v gti

yep x 2

go oldschool and have LOOADDS of cash to mess around with it :)

My vote is for 200000 penny chews, maybe the cola-bottle ones.

Renualt Clio 172? Youd rather have a Polo Gti? :retard:

yes indeed sir!! Polo is better built, cheaper to run, insure etc,

& jus as quick imho! mine has roughly 140 odd bhp!!

Plus it aint french lol

Ha thank's for all your replies, as much as i'd love a mk2 gti. I'm after something a little more refined and less brash. Plus i have painfully little car knowledge so perhaps a car so old isn't for me.

I'm so suprised the Audi got such a negative responce. Gutted eh.

them non turbo A3s are tradgically slow thats why
