due to lack of space I had to sell my mk2 passat so i've just bought a mk2 polo breadvan to replace it with

now the plan in my head is to get about -90mm lowering kit ant try and fit some 16" steels under the arches. has anyone seen this done or know of any major problems I may come across? I'm not to worried about butchering the wheel arches abit as it'll be gettin re painted satin nato green and black after anyway

I Wish i could help, I'm also driving a mk2 breadvan, but you're lucky you're willing to do some arch work, i really dont want to. I'm fitting 14x6 Teardrops. and hopefully dropping about 70

but 16's sounds pretty mad, especially on a 90 drop!!

thats what i was hoping! want to use the 16" steels that the late renaults have as spare wheels the offset shouldn't be too far out!

my last ride was a mk2 passat estate that i lowered 120mm at the front and 140mm on the rear lol so i'd rather fit smaller wheels if i have to than go for a smaller drop

i ran 15" with standard height and it scrapess everywheeeree, i would never run 16s, smaller the better mate

yeah but i just want someting a bit different! alloys small and wide = cool. steels bigger is better lol

All sounds a bit top trumps to me. As far as I'm aware, the standard ground clearance on a mk2 isn't much more than 90mm. Good luck if you want to do it, but the numbers youre throwing around don't work for aminute in my mnd.

yeah but the bigger wheels will give the extra ground clearance! and i'm planning on being around 15mm from the floor

Dude that is gonna handle like a bag of shit with 16s! whether they will go on or not depends on the width, offset and size tyres you'll be running.

If your planning 'bigger wheels = more ground clearance' your never gna drop 90mm with 16s because the diameter of the tyre will be so much bigger than a 13 which will be scrubtastic and will also put your speedo and mileage waaaay out!

Also arch work on the rear arches of a breadvan is going to be extremely difficult to get it looking good because you cant just roll them, so going to be lots and lots of work and butchering.

Imo it will just look like a small child wearing his dads shoes, much better off getting 14s.

If you really want it that low, stick with some cool standard steelies or get something else 13 or maybe 14

Have a look in the gallery at totally slammed MK2s and see what issues they had.

yeah it'll be low! i've got full access at my works after hours so its only really my time to get it right!

my last vw was dropped about 140mm and that took alot to get right, just want it a little bit different

I got bored today and removed the rear suspension and bolted on an alloy thats off the same car i'm tryin to get some steelies from so should be the same offst, then then let it down on the jack approx 100mm and the wheel clears everything, even the arch! at most I might have to roll the arch a bit and put a small spacer on to clear the inner arch but won't know till I try it with tyres on! haven't tried the front yet though

as you can see the lip hasn't been rolled and theres still a few mm clearance

this ones not so clear but you can see there's still a bit of room

just remember these aren't the wheels i'm plannin on using but the offset and size are the same

don't know yet! i tried looking but the inside of the wheel is so dirty i got bored

got my 16's on! they're a different offset to the ones i tried originally so i've had to use 13mm spacers to clear the spring cup and tap the arches up a bit! no rubbing though but haven't had any passengers yet!

now it just needs to go a bit LOWER

i think it looks tacky in my opinion, but thats just my view, fair play if thats what you want, may want to sort the wing out 1st?

I had 7x16 Porsche rims on mine with 195/40-16, offsets 30 and 20 and it scrubbed a lot in the rear, even though mine has round arches and is at least 25 mm wider. My suspension is KW v1 coilovers
