id buy one. i know someone who after his williams 2 engine blew up he put a gtt into it. it was fucking quick. then he hit a deer, sad times.

My mum used to have one of these, it was fairly quick, until it set itself on fire :(

She got a chipped mondeo after that, that was about as fast, if not a bit quicker

Looks nice for a phase 1 but there even more un reliable than the phase 2.

Must be rare in that condition.

Make sure you have a repair fund set aside you will need it. From experience I can guarantee larger running costs than a nice 911 etc.

Even dedicated R5GTT fans tend to struggle with their reliability, they seem to catch fire a lot and haver a lot of engine trouble.

As with any turbo carburetted car you have to keep a close eye on everything, a bit of crap in the carb or a split hose to the fuel pressure regulator and you start melting things.

I love the look of them though.

just whoever buys it is better off been an engineer or car mechanic because I'm sure these cars are made of paper!lol,driveshafts popping and turbo's blowing and compression loss is very common but if you love working on cars go for it coz these could be worth big bucks in afew years!

Always liked the R5 Turbo, but as mentioned before reliability is an issue.

I absolutely love them. But like everyone says, reliability is a bg issue. That's why I have the Renault 5 Monaco edition which has the 1.7 engine in it. Alright its not as fast as the GTT but it's pretty nippy and has never broken down. And it has the added luxury's of leather seats etc. :)

Been for sale for sometime now and it is a beautiful car and the its fairly standard. Phase ones look so much better, think its the front grill.

I have been told that well looked after ones do last ok as long as its not toasting the thing everytime you drive it. Many idiots get hold of these. Buy and in car boost control and just go mental. Which although upping the boost is the cheapest way to get power, without uprating a few bits and going to far the engine will pop.

Have a small fund aside ready for anything that may go wrong but if i had the money i would. Quite a big following and so many people out there to help.

You see examples for sale with 120k+ on the clocks so they must be able to make it that far. Even if it costs you a few turbo rebuilds and a few replacement heads.

If i got one uprated headgasket, uprated headbolts, check the cooling system works as should and service it. Have some fun.....
