as some of you may know i used to own a honda civic i sold that car on the 10th of june to someone else who buys cars they sit in his garage and eventually he sells them on... all the paperwork was sorted there and then and i sent off his paper work, it was a while then i got a tax reminder through the door so i sent a letter back explaining that i hadnt owned the car and gave details of new owner then i got a confirmation letter through the post saying all is well

a few months on and I'm getting debt reclaiming services sending letters saying i owe 80 pounds

i phoned and explained this to them but they say that i have to pay it, i put my foot down and said I'm not excepting that when i sold the car on the tenth of june and the car tax runs out on the 1/08/08 it was the new owners resposibility and offered them his number and address to chase him up on...

where do i stand, i just had to pay the same fine on a car which was sorned for a year last week to the same people, which the bank didnt let through so got a 35 pound fine from fkin bank too!

tell them you are not paying as you have proof of new owner, offer to send them the letter they sent you as proof. send a photocopy tho as they are good at losing things. it should have a code on that corresponds with their records which they can look up over the phone.

i scrapped my old 16v last year filled in the forms and declared it scrapped, i lost the confirmation letter and had to stump up the fine for 8 months non tax as it was previously sorn.

good luck fella, they really are a useless bunch the DIVLA, i could go on forever about the fkups i've had to sort out over the years!!

nice guy though but he informed me that i have to put in for an appeall to the office which issued the fine!

does your insurance have legal protection? after all there not just there for accidents.

If you have the confirmation letter then they don't have a leg to stand on as they confirmed that you didnt have ownership at the time.

i have explained there is a new owner and would my insurance policy am using on current car legal protection be used for the civic? (older policy)

If you're gonna be seeking legal advice, your best bet is to contact the providers of the legal cover and ask them to appoint a solicitor. I had problems when i was dealing with my accident frommy legal cover as i was using a solicitor not appointed by them, didnt give them indemnity so to speak.

had exact same thing dvla are complete barstewards sold the car well over a year ago, after like 2 letters of explaining i had sold the car and it doesnt even exsist anymore its been scrapped they still said they wanted me to pay the fine the cheeky funts still saying I'm to blame to which id laughed sent one back saying I'm not paying you and I'm contacting my solicitors to which like a month or more later they sent me a confirmation of non ownership letter through the post no apology or nothing gits
