Hi,

I just lent my 6n to my mum for the evening and she just came back saying that there was a burnt slightly fishy smell coming from the engine. It's too dark to see anything but I can definitely smell something not right.

Anyone have any suggestions what this may be?

It's got me a bit worried as I've almost got the car how I want it now.

woman driver dude. They never did anything wrong............... Yeah right.

She's obviously burnt the clutch out a bit

As long as it still pulls ok it'll be fine, just takes a while for the burning smell to go away.

Looking for whiet furry type crap in there somewhere.........mines the same, but its coming from around about the right side of the head.

No heated seats at the mo...(well I do have them just not wired up yet)

I'll check for the fur around the hoses and expansion chamber, head etc. and report back.

I get an odd smell from my engine after its been warmed up that I can only smell outside the car, where leaked oil has been sitting on the hot engine. Don't know if its the same smell.

If it is the clutch - does she drive another car? Maybe she has got used to a different clutch and has been mistreating yours. Maybe a quick driving lesson is needed. :p

Hi,

I've checked the car today and went for a short spin to warm the engine up, the car pulls away well and clutch seems ok.

The smell is back and is like burnt rubber with a cooked coolant smell.

The car drives well and temp reading on the dash is fine...when I felt the coolant hoses they were extremely hot (not sure if that is normal or not).

I've checked for leaks and there are none that I can see also checked the coolant level which is fine and the oil is fine too.

Anyone have any ideas?

coolant hoses do get very hot

get down and have a sniff near the brakes or gearbox , its gota be one of those

shes prob just stunk the clutch up , prob be okay but will kill it if she keeps doing it

I've had a few strange smells recently where oil has leaked onto my exhaust.

After leaving the car for a week or so I've found a small oil leak...I've been told it's the gear selector shaft seal.

I was wondering if this oil leaking and heating up would cause the smell.

Also is this gear oil or engine oil?

Could be gearbox oil stinks!
