Yesterday I picked this beasty up for £60!!

No MOT or tax

It runs rather well and all seems to work (minus a few little bits n bobs

The body work is far from mint but all is fixable

Its done a bit over 130K

VW service history up until 97

Got it out and gave it a good clean today, but even after nearly 3 hours at it its still filthy.

Took the chance to take a load more pictures

and the mould

Its new home (the MK3's old home) next to my mates garage.

Plans are as follows:

Sort all the bodywork out and respray the same colour

Hit it with the slamming stick with the aid of coilovers :p

G40 front brake set-up + braided pipes all round

G40 conversion

Some choice wheels (unsure on these atm)

Completely re-do the interior

Sliding Britax sunroof (rag-top style)

Along with a load of other finishing touches.

Chances are some plans will change, but it has to have a G40 lump in it sooner rather than later.

Going to give it another clean tomorrow to get rid of the rest of the muck outside

Might have a bash on the inside too if I have time.

Make sure you take all the carpets out and check fro rust everywhere as you wouldnt want to spend cash monies on its bodywork only to find out it has serious car cancer ..

Cant really go too wrong for the price you paid i thought i did well at £200 ish ..

Gave it another good clean today, looks much better now :)

Had a quick look underneath too on the ramps and it looks surprisingly solid. AND its got a brand new petrol tank on it, its still all shiny and not a spot of rust Will be coming off though, needs a coat of something to give it more protection.

Not at work tomorrow so I'll be spending the day stripping it of various parts that could be hiding rust. Need to know exactly what I'm dealing with.

Brilliant to see yet another saloon, i'd say you've found quite a solid one there, with only one or two nasty looking bits. But the main thing is, it is fixable. Look forward to seeing its progress!

Bit of mold will come off easy from interiour, my mini and beetle were worse then that (mini wasnt used for almost 4yrs and beetle for a year while leaking)

They cleaned up fine :)

Going to really have my work cut out on this one.

Didn't want to have to take the interior out just yet but the battery tray has a rather sizeable hole, leaving the carpet rather soggy. thought it best to rip it out n let it all dry out.

And I doubt that carpet will be going back in again, custom shizz FTW

And I wont be using fibreglass, everything will either be patched up or new panels.

Still not sure what to do about an open-air roof or something along those lines

I'm liking the look of this, think it will be an interesting project to follow. cant wait to see more progress!

Need to get the MK3 ready for its trip to the ring in September.

As soon as that's over I'll be pumping everything into this.

Might be on the road for GTI spring festival 2010 but with this amount of rust it could be difficult

I personally don't think it looks that bad but it depends on whether you can weld and have the time and facilities to do it. At least each bit of rust is localised and you can work round the car picking each bit off..

If it was a square I bet you would be well scrapping it.

My caddy is way way worse than this.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting this much rust tbh. But ill get it all fixed, will just take longer than i wanted it to.

And yep, I think if it was a square I would be scrapping.

Anyone took the windows out on these before? I think its going rusty under the rubber seals so want them out. Just don't want to break them. There an easy way? or should i just get a pro down to take um all out for me?

On a square I removed the rear three by pushing the seal over the rim from the inside with a blunt flat screwdriver. With two people you can do the parachute cord method of putting cord into that inner lip of rubber and pulling cord and persuading it over lip of metal. (I used line for a strimmer). You'll think it's impossible until there will be a point where you get the knack (and sore hands) and it'll pop out.

As far as front screen goes just cut the seal with a sharp stanley because there is no flex and can crack easily. Buy new seals or source scrappy seals. Loon rear screen,not sure how easily broken?

No progress on this today, finished work and got a load of stuff for refurbishing the RA's for the MK3

But I have just gone and ordered nearly £30 worth of sanding flap discs, wire brush things and other attachments for the grinder

Hopefully the rain will hold off over the weekend so I can get some more work done on this.

Also been offered a rear repair panel for this . I need to stop spending on it though haha, MK3 is more important atm.
