I'm after a bit of info please, where were these wheels banded?

Bandedsteels.com didnt band these and there seems to be a serious problem with them with the new owner.

thanks

What's up with them?

Is it a lad called Ste in Kendal that has them now?

Ste has them in Kendal, his dad has been on the phone with a problem with them.

All i can say is whoever made them have made a potentially dangerous set and it needs to be put right or stop making them, someone is going to be injured or even worse killed!

No wonder they keep getting sold on, nearly bought these myself. Ste lives a few hundred yards from me, I might pop round.

Shitty workmanship, or what exactly is up with them?

And howcome all the adverts on here, Mk2 Golf Owners Club, VW Caddy forum don't mention this?

These have been around more than Ulrika FFS, does no-one have any honesty?

Here is the for sale thread from Dubbed Polo, with no mention of anything wrong. "They're just not for me" - Here

For sale thread on VW Golf Mk2 Owners Club - again no mention of anything wrong - Here

Here again on VW Caddy Forum - again no mention, same pics used again - Here

Unfortunately for Ste, the cat is out of the bag, and no-one will want them, and he's £400 out of pocket. At least he's got tyres.

I hope the people who've sold these on can live with the possibility that someone could have bought these, put them on their car, then gone out for a day with the family. Boils my piss.

so what do people who own a set of banded steels need to look for incase they haven't been done at bandedsteels.com?

or will it become ovious when it comes to balancing them up?or check for crap welds???

I'd like to know this too please. Like I said, I'd love a set, but a set that's safe. I have a partner, kids, and a dog that I don't want killing due to shitty work.

if I'm not mistaken, banded steels are illegal to use on the road anyway, there only meant to be used for show purpose unless the law has changed. but i fully understand where your coming from guys

I know when i spoke to Ste's dad is said i had seen this set go around a lot lately. I really do feel for Ste as he's not passed his test yet and trying to get his car how he wants it with the little money he gets. I'm trying to do everything i can for him and will be meeting them on sunday to see what we can do for him.

There's no way of you guys telling whether Bandedsteels.com have done the wheels but being the one that has seen most of the wheels going out the door at bandedsteels.com i can tell by the welds and i have a database with all sets made. Sorry it doesnt help you guys telling who made them.

There's loads of people trying to make a quick buck by making "cheap" Banded Steels but i dont see any of them putting there necks out to help when they go wrong like this particular set. It reallys gets on my nerves knowing some people are out there trying to pass wheels off as made by "BandedSteels.com" I am just sorting out something to stop this happening.

BandedSteels.com wheels are proven not to leak, we have tried and tested methods and have been doing these now for about 3 years and have it perfected.

I'm that confident about BandedSteel.com work I'm organinsing to make the wheels made by us, to be made road legal, that will soon sort out the people making dodgy wheels.

Banded Steels are not illegal but need to be done right and not just knocked up in some old garage etc . . .

I have run a set on my Golf VR6 now for 3 years and passed the MOT everytime, the guy knows they are banded steels as well, he even bought a set for his car

if anyone has any questions or dubious about some wheels they have drop me an email info@bandedsteels.com

Well put Kris.

This is exactly the kind of response that's required by companies, and it's rarely heard of. As far as other companies are concerned, as you have said, are just out for a quick buck, and couldn't give a monkeys regarding customer satisfaction.

This is obviously not that case with you and your company, and it's heartening to see that you're coming to see them, even though you don't have anything to do with this set in the 1st place.

Ste, best of luck with getting sorted, it's really pissed me off. (As you can probably tell.)

I've already stated my opinions on the people that sold them on (it seems) knowingly faulty. Why, when you reeeeeeaaally want them, buy them, fit them, and sell them the next day, several times over, with some shoddy excuse?

I understand everyone in the chain has been ripped off, and they're just trying to re-coup the money, but where does it stop? When it doesn't get noticed and someone has a high-speed crash, fatalities even?

banded steels are not illegal and have never been illegal. i had a set on my 6n polo and when i took my MOT course specifically asked about the legallities. acording to VOSA there not an MOT fail and never have been
