yeh as u can imagine I'm very pissed off, after spending 400 quid of my hard earned cash, only to find there leaking from thw welds =/

the guy i bought them off seemed genuine and a decent feller but i spose tht's how decieveing people can be. i realised the leaks when i went to wash them and saw bubbles from sum of the welds. so my advise to other potential buyers of some banded steels is to ask if you can give them a quick spray with a hose or something and check all the welds before buying.

If the wheels were done by banded steels they'l be fine but if their a dodgy set ull see the weld bubbling the water a the air forces its way out.

Fortunatly for me Kris is a really decent guy and is doing his best for me, if all goes to plan the wheels will be fully refurbished, therefore completely safe roadworthy, and that way my mind will be completely at rest if i decide to sell them on as i no they've been done proffesionally and are totally safe.

if I'm not mistaken, banded steels are illegal to use on the road anyway, there only meant to be used for show purpose unless the law has changed. but i fully understand where your coming from guys

banded steels are not illegal they just have to be certified. bandedsteels.com (wide-wheels.com) give out a certificate to ensure that they are safe as they have the proper equipment to build them.

Cheers Guys, we do our best and sometimes end up going well beyond the call of the job entails but its all for the love of the job.

We are going to do the best we can for Ste we just need to look at the wheels and see how bad they are, if they are anything to go by the last few dodgy sets others have made they maybe only fit for paper weights but we will see on sunday.

After talking to Ste and his dad over the weekend and seeing the wheels in front of me i can confirm these wheels are potentially dangerous to even fit on a car let alone use them.

The wheels are being looked at this week by the engineer but for someone to weld them and start to grind the welds back flat is a bad start anyway. Whoever made these was not thinking about whether they would come apart. From just looking at the wheels they dont look like the weld has penetrated in to the wheel and the band.

I'm sorry but like Ste's dad said over the weekend he has esentially bought £400's worth of scrap.

lets face it.one inch of weld can hold unto 1 tone or weight.now a good 30 inches all the wey round the wheel isnt exactly going to fall to pieces is it..lol

The welding hadnt penetrated both the rim and band. The wheels are being looked at and seeing what can be done with them otherwise they are £400 paper weights.

No, they werent welded properly anyway. The weld hadnt penetrated the steel.

The wheels should be air tight without adding sealer, we use some stuff on the welds purely to stop the damp causing the welds to rust from the inside of the wheel.

I cant believe people actually think they can get away with making wheels so badly!!

These wheels shouldnt have been sold on knowing that they leaked so badly!! The welds hadnt even touched some of the banding in some places and to grind down the weld on the inside of the wheel is madness!!

I've had 3 sets from the same guy and all you have to do is run a skim of silicone over the welds due to to odd spit and pin hole in the weld,

I've also had a couple of people who have had wheels off you and have had the weld compared and everone has said the welds on from this person are a hell of alot better then yours and a better cleaner finish I've but a few poeple his way and they are are all over welmed but the wheels all it takes is a small skim of silicone not hard

in fact KRIS i had a mate who brought a set of steels off you they were brought as 5x100 they turnt up 5x112 and still didnt hold air amd he tried to contact you and try AND SORT IT OUT BUT NO REPLY AND JUST GOT FOBBED OFFF.

also had another few mates had wheels done by you said they would come ready to paint prept and they turnt up no way near ready not even been touched and wrong sizes with out askin the buyer and to cover the prep of the wheels you sent them 25 quid in a cheque somehow dont think tha will cover the cost of prep and tha took a lot of e mails complaining to get tha. blood and stone came to mind

so just because some1 is doin banded steels and is selling more then you dont have to ruin some1 elses bussiness.

P.S. Regarding the 'safe' issue. I'm not going back there, just look at one of my previous posts on this thread if you want my feelings on this.

not at all the we are constantly busy and the wheels are flowing thick and fast so i'm not bothered how wll this guy is doing.

What bothers me is that i keep getting the wheels he is doing to fix and it costs the people who buythem twice as much in the 1st place than getting them done properly in the first place.

as for running a skim of silicone over the welds are you f'ing nuts, silicone isnt goning to stop much! Weld them properly in the first place and it not a problem.

AS for the welds, have we had any leak the way they are done at our engineering company . . . . NOPE!

the welds are a hell of a lot neater than the ones on these wheels and grinding back a thin weld is asking for troble anyway.

To have a slit in between the banding and wheel where it hasnt been welded for a 5" length of the steel is asking for trouble. There will be pics of all the wheels that have been sent from people for them repairing or even some of them being thrown away there that bad! Get them straight FFS and wheel wobble wouldnt be a problem as well

What takes the p!ss is that people pass them off as bandedsteels.com wheels and expect to get double there money back wen they well the leaking wheels on.

Its all down to trust at the end of the day and i know that i have run the same wheels for 3 years with no leaks or probems so i know which wheels i'm going to trust.

At the end of the day Bandedsteels.com/Widewheels has been going for 3 years and is well established at banding the wheels, its the persons choice who wants them at the end of the day.

If someone has an accident on some dodgy wheels that were done elsewhere dont think you think there coming back to Bandedsteels.com thinking the blame is lying on us, we know which wheels we have done and how safe they are.
