1991 mk2 polo starter motor position

Featured Replies

Hi

I need help trying to find the starter motor in a mk2 polo genesis. As the one in my mk2 polo gt has gone completely.

I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't show where the position is and the only pictures in the book , are ones that are too close up to see.

Can anyone help with instructions on how to remove it too?

you need to remove the 3 bolts holding it on which i think 2 of them go through the gearbox flange.

the starter is located behind the engine block.

the starter motor on these is hidden behind the front bumper, awkward as it seems you need a special tool from vw to access it

its more work and more expense removing the inlet for no real gain SIMPLE and its also a bit tricky removing the inlet lol, like all jobs on cars all you need are decent tools.

starter motors regardless of car are at the end of the main +12v cable (yes the thick one)...

to be honest if you cant identify one for your own safety and the safety of others it may be a good idea to consult experienced or qualified help.

Well, in a way, he is right. It is behind the front bumper, like everything else on the car.

damn site more easy removing the inlet than hunting around for it behind the friken front bumper lmao

8-10 bolts and a £2.99 gasket ffs

whats the special tool for it anyway? a 13mm socket?

I think the "special tool" is the guy trying to find the starter motor behind the front bumper.

You would be a very special tool if you looked behind there for it!!!
