What do you actually need to do this? My friend just bought a car with no tax and hasnt got the logbook etc back but he carnt find the details in the paperwork the garage has given him when he just bought the car

I'm not 100% but i think you need to prove it yours to tax, like a number off the green slip? and rest comes up on the database.

why not just go on the website..

you wont be able to do it online if it hasn`t been insured in your name for a few weeks, or is in transition of ownership.

but the postoffice allows you to tax on the green slip/mot/insurance - old skool!!!

Its for my mate it is, I looked on the web and couldnt make sense out of what I needed, tried to ring the DVLA but a machine kept coming on saying press 12345 and then id get to a dead end and it would hang up.

Basically he just insured the car so he hasnt got all the paperwork through and for some reason he hasnt got the green slip and he has to send off for his logbook. You know what its like when you first get a car you just want to drive it, but he hasnt got tax and doesnt know how to get it.

i doubt you'll be able to do it online due to not owning it for long. I couldnt do my bready online due to owning it for 2weeks.

You need the reminder form that comes through the post or

the Document Reference Number from the log book to tax

a car online.If you have none of those.....your fooked.

If you can't find them you will have to contact the DVLA

for a new log book.
