sony headunit -little battery power

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have had to rewire the stereo connections on the car as the previous owner had cut it all.

Anyway... the head unit switches on and off with the ignition fine and everything is working but when the ignition is off the stereo won't switch on - but there is power as it will eject / insert cds and as my hu is motorised it has to work this.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Lisa

a lot of cars will still supply enough power on the ACC+ feed to eject CDs.

when you connect a headunit to the cars loom, even with key out of the column, itll still whir up the CD mech and some allow you to eject the CD also.

depends on car and on headunit

but why won't the unit switch on?

Thought you meant it was all working when you said

"Anyway... the head unit switches on and off with the ignition fine and everything is working "

didnt realise it wouldnt turn on

your feeds are probably the wrong way round, igntion live and battery live

swap em and see.

on the loom that came with your sony the red and yellow leads (igg live and batt live) will have plastic push connectors on them, swap them over red/yellow yellow/red and try then

the only way to get the feed to allow you to turn the head unit on when you dont have the key in the ignition is if you run a permanent power lead from the battery to the headunit, the problem with this is that the headunit will then ignore the signal when you take the key out of the ignition. the reason that car manufacturers do this is so that it prolongs the life of the battery as you could leave the sterio on at low volume after you have stopped the car and forget to turn it off, causing the battery to go flat. well thats my take on it anyway.

P.s my car also doesnt let me turn my sony headunit on without the key.

johnb25-6 - yeah it is working but it wouldn't switch on with just the battery power. I am happy enough with it like that anyway.

jon - cheers for your help. I will just leave it the way it is as it's all working well and the way I want.

Thanks!

np fella :D

i'm a girl but Cheers!!

oooo my bad :)

I'm liking the split down badge in your avatar pic, I'm going to do the backing piece the same colour white as my car instead of your green, and goign to spray the VW front black :D but looks cool :D

Jon

Thanks! I got bored one Sunday afternoon!

the VW bit is black on mine but hard to tell in that pic and then green on the inside. It was dead easy to do and was fun! Cheers! that green is my fav colour so had to be it!! Yours will be nice, I like that look. I'm going to do the rear badge next, but spray it black on black.

I like it because you can't see it unless you know it's there. know what I mean?

Lisa

yours looks satin silver in that pic :p

but yea i know what you mean, its subtle, but lots of subtle things make a great look i think! i tried a debadged grill but thought it looked a bit tacky, so thought id go a little different :D i split the two down last night and sprayed it up, so it should be sorted by tonight hopefully!!

Jon

i better get the avatar sorted then cos I sure don't want a satin silver badge!! lol

Yeah I'm all for the subtle things - not fond of too many obvious ones. I don't really like the debagded grilles tbh so good choice there! Happy days, hope it al looks well. Fire up some pics of it done!

That's mine from the front.

oo sleek :D ill try and get it sorted later tonight and ill fire up a pic after :) any more pics of your car?

Jon

Cheers - I was well impressed with it! A couple of rattle cans and a jobs a goodun!

I know it needs lowered!

looks really nice :) could do with some coilies tho :p I'm not sure what colour to get my alloys painted, going for a polished lip but dont know what to do the centers, any ideas?

Jon

Yes I know it needs lowered!! They're sitting in the living room waiting to be put in!

Going onto the white car? White or black I would go for cos it's original and will match everything else. Or if you wanted something more colourful I would stay dark. Dark red / green / purple would be hot!!!

well iv photoshopped some wheels onto it, here is the link to the thread, ill be going for the multispokes :) but not sure if i like black as i had them on the golf like that and they looked gash....http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=144475&st=0entry1356875
