Hey mate i just turned 18.

I Was paying £75 a month for my Mk3 Golf 1.6 cl. but thats on my mums name,

That all went haywire and they cancelled the policy due to finding out i was the main user and the logbook was in my name, so now I'm paying £150 a month with someone else. but now I'm 18 I'm going to try find a cheaper quote.

I haven't declared any of my Mods because it will be killer, just dont be stupid and race around and hopfully youll be okay.

Peace

Dont be a complete bum hole your hole life. If you crash in to me your nice cheap insurance will be void so MY insurance company will have to pay for all the damage. Meening MY quote will go up more. The odd set of alloys etc and you might get away with pleading ignorance "they were on when I bought it, I didn't know".

If you want cheap insurance then get your own policy and add your folks as this way its legal, your acytually covered and it doesn't screw up their NCB when you wrap it round a tree.

Limit your milage. About 6k a year is good. Your still covered if you exceed the milage but your excess will go up if your stack it.

If you have a garage then say it is parked in there. If your car is nicked on the one night your dont park in there then your still covered. And lets face it at 17 with an old polo you have more chance of claiming for a crash.

Go for DSP without commuting. If you crash you were going shopping. Right? Your still covered.

My theory is you can stretch the truth but if you lie you are not covered and your just f**king it up for anyone who who might hit.

Oh yeah and try to get on a classic policy. Sure they are out there for under 25s. Last year I got a mk2 VR6 fully comp with track cover, any other driver and fully comp on other cars for £350

New record for number of 'fails' in a single post....

Who is that with? Some companies don't allow mods, such as Direct Line. Some offer free mods as long as it has no performance benifit such as Quinn? or is that Flux? Other companies allow engine mods as long as they don't benifit by more than 10-30hp. Varies really tbh mate.

with quinn mate

ill just ring them and ask then i thinks :D

Is this true, I'm sorting my insurance out tomora, and i do have a garage but it wont be parked it there, most the time it will be on the drive or road, the odd occasion in the garage. but I'm wondering whether to say it will garaged or not

Edited by juice_josh

say its garaged

its all well and good saying its garaged I'm just worried if i did and then something happened in the drive or street i wouldnt be able to claim?

Yeah. The policy will say where is it NORMALLY parked. Well mine is down as private car park as that is where it is NORMALLY parked. If it was on the road outside or on my mums drive then I would still be covered. If however I had an engine swap or other mods that were not declared then I would not be.

As said I see no problem with stretching the truth. But a lie that will invalidate your insurance just screws other people.

I'm 17 with a 1.4cl 8v, insured with churchill fully comp, £1254 :) not too bad but not cheap either lol.

How come they insure you :-( i tap in my details and it says they are unable to provide me with a quote?

I'm 17 btw is it because of my age or what? Iv also got the same car as you.

thanks

tom.

Polo 1.4 Tdi (2002)

£895 fully comp, Quinn for the win.

Your own Policy

i got a qoute yesterday as JUST passed, they have me £2052.79 WTF!!

Its a 1.0L And there giving qoutes like that

Is it because TPF&T is more expensive but then again cant be!!

Its outrages that a 1,4 TDI newer car is less on Insurance than a 1.0L MK3 Polo!

i got a quote to go on my dads name with direct line, £665. i'm 17, driving a 1 litre mk3 coupe.

And another my dad works for RBS and for me to be insured on My Step Mums Name on a 1.0L MK3 with Staff Discount because my dad is on her insurace they want £800

and I'm not boasting but i live in a area of my town that is quick posh and snobby so its not like it will get broke into considering you have to get through a gate etc :@

your not getting insured for what someone is going to do to your old polo.... your insured for if/when you go in the back of a 56 reg merc.

Not being funny but your a new, and inexperienced driver. Thats why premiums for young people, and particularly lads, is so high.

Edited by ben_reza

I'm 17 and only pay £777 tpft for my 1l mk3 polo coupe on my own policy with direct line, joys of been a girl! :D

i pay the same for fully comp on my 14 8v 6n, with opendirect. us sisters have it worked out

ima grow some boobs n chop my man hood off think ill get lower prices?

Mines £949.49 @ 19 with 2 yrs NCB not bad i thought tho

Going to declare coils and alloys

Will Quinn Direct bum me or not thats the Question..

Ash

each mod 25 quid extra for 6 months with quinn mate ash told me.

ohh r8 ill ring em up tnyt then

  • 2 weeks later...

haven't passed my test but had insurance quotes calculated with money supermarket as soon as i passed

on an '03 VW POLO E55 3DR

cheapest quote being £3840

then went straight to direct line and got online quote of £1996 fully comp

i don't think theres anypoint in using moneysupermarket/confused.com/go compare etc because their quotes are obviously stupid. Con't know how they get them

Best thing to do is call up individual companies or go online to insurance company's individual sites for quotes..

I still think £1996 is too high on 1.2 polo

:(

Alot of companies wont cover mods at 17/18.

Try Quinn Direct and admiral, heard their prices can be cheap.

Brentacre are the way forward, but think you have to be 19 for a policy with them (could be 18 though no 100%)

What about HIC??

Edited by VeeDub9n

Brentcare you have to be 19

And HIC And Adrian Flux are sister companies, will get the same qoute

Quinn are wankers tbh I've tried getting qoutes and my mate can somehow get insured on his own policy on a 1.4 Punto Sporting, with coilies etc etc for £857.85 WTF is going on!!!

When I was 17, paid just about £560 for my own name on a corsa c 0.9cc Club thing, i then bought a 205gti 1.9 2 months later, insured it fully comp for £800 with quinn. I'm now 21, and I had a 205 gti insured fully comp, 6 points (bald tyres), no claims on the policy, no ncb and it was £840.
