hello,

as you can see I'm new to this forum, thou i am one the 205 gti drivers forum as i have a mi16 205. Any how my lass's brother gave his polo as its been stood for about 5 years, so the paint has gone but i have managed to rewire the ignition system (due to lack of fob and key) and got it going. The engine came out of a brand new jetta when they came out and was rebuilt and installed before being neglated and left for years. Strange thou as it has rear discs and also this wow body kit, from holland i was told and electric mirrors etc. Just unsure what the colour the car is sprayed in? any ideas?

as you can see the paint is bad, but i will fix that. what you guys think? I've posted in the wanted section that i need a ignition barrel holder and keys, if any of you can help me out?

I'm unsure on the code for the paint but someone on here might be able to help you, you should deffo keep it that colour

thanks for the replys and i will keep you all updated. The mirrors are cool like and even the electrics work on them. Indian red maybe sounds right by looking up the colour, and it does go well, not as fast as my 16v pug like. It has rear discs and i shattered one of them trying to unseize them. Did these polos come with rear discs as standard? I think they maybe golf gti discs so need to replace them.

The doors dont have locks on them,(not on handles) and also i will need the ignition barrel holder that has the bearing for the steering rack and steering wheel lock, and i new barrel with keys if anybody has them both?

The MK3 Polo's didn't come with discs as standard, you are right, these would be a Golf upgrade & discs wouldn't be a problem to get to replace them.

In regard to the ignition barrel, imho what I would do is this....get the new ignition barrel & key etc (Try the wanted section on the forum to get the most help with this) Once you have the new key & barrel, get yourself off down to VW & get 2 new door barrels tumbled to match your ignition key to save on the number of keys. This is very cheap & shouldn't cost you alot at all. Replace these barrels into your exsisting door handles which is a piece of piss to do :-) Or if I have misread the door handle situation, just get yourself a set of barreled handles.....infact I may have some in my shed!!!!! I will check tonight!!!!

That looks awesome! Colour is sweet, ill agree with Polo Will tho it does look a touch light to be indian red not that it matters tbh....with a bit of TLC this will be one sweet machine!

just get an entire lock set and keys from a car that's being broken, should be a couple of mk2 or mk3s being broken in the for sale section on here at most times.

I'm a bit confused as to what the engine is though, surely a mk2 jetta 1.6 would have had a tall block carb'd engine? That looks like a 1.3 polo GT engine to me. Anyway it looks like it has been a really nice car at one point and I hope you can get it back to it's former glory.

right well thats what my lass's brother said. it does drive quick for a 1.3 but maybe if i get the engine number i could find out? I was thinking maybe to get the remote central locking working as it did have an alarm on it, which when i connected the battery the central locking motors were engaging. I remeoved the alarm as said above as the fob was missing and the alarm kept going off so took it off.

yeah there'll be an engine code & number stamped on the block just above where the gearbox mounts, just below the thermostat housing with all the water pipes going to it. It'll start with 3F if it's a GT engine, they are pretty nippy for a 1.3, they are 75bhp and have close-ratio gearboxes. I had one as a daily driver for a couple years, great fun revvy little engines. It could of course be using a 1.6 small block bottom end from a later car but it would need to come from something like a mk4 polo, seat ibiza. I don't think a jetta ever came with a 1.6 small block.

The engine codes for the 1.6 engines put in the jetta are: EZ, EZA, HM, RF, PN or ABN (not inculding the diesels)

However I dont know if any of these are small block engines

EZ is a big-block 1.8 with smaller crank, most have 1.8 stamped on the block too...

Does only look like a 1.3 Lump just with a Golf Airflow Meter on it ...

They do go well for a lil 1.3 though to be fair

that looks like a great little project mate

right been away for a while, but back again, but i have a problem. The shaft that the steering wheel nut tighens onto has sheared, due to me trying to get the spring and coupler off (the coupler that the steering wheel grips on the shaft). Any ideas on how to get this off? I have had it off before, but because i put it back on with out the igintion barrel housing etc, i cant budge it. It has a large spring behind it? Also the long shaft which has the threaded end what diameter are them. I'm think i could run a die down?

Also is there any haynes manuals for the mk3 polo avaiable online to view?

Sweet car, always loved the Mk3's i'd love one for my first car. What wheel are they? Is that a aftermarket body kit? or stock?

if you clean this up your gunna have a clean little gt!!! Plus its got a pretty tasty body kit!!! Nice one!

That's deffo a 1.4 or 1.6 block in there. You can tell be the fact that the drivers side engine mount isn't flush with the top of the block(it's about 20mm lower than the top of the block) and would have come from a Mk.3 Golf, Seat Ibiza/Cordoba, or like mine, a Skoda Felicia. Codes would be AEE, ALM or ABU.

I've got a few complete steering columns available if you need them, with keys. May even have a complete lock kit.

That's Indian red for sure, same as my old Genesis was.

Having looked at the pics again, that's an early ABU lump for sure. The cambelt cover shape gives it away
