polo n6 small build

Featured Replies

hi all just moved this over from the blog section coz i realy aint got a clue what to do with the blog thingy lol

i have taken on a new little project as the sierra has gone :(

this is going to be an ongoing project so will keep you updated as i get on with it

so i managed to grab hold of this little vw polo 1.4 , i have always wanted to have one of these to play with and this will also take some of the millage off the audi which has now reached 115k so i need something back and for to work which is cheap .

so here she is

2008_0424blackyskyline22230009.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230011.jpg

have had a set of 14" steel wheels for her so far which i gave a lick of paint to last night they came to me like this

2008_0424blackyskyline22230001.jpg

so started first just cleaning whith acid free wheel cleaner to get the worst off

2008_0424blackyskyline22230002.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230003.jpg

then it was onto the flating back with 180 grit wet and dry

so before sanding

2008_0423blackyskyline22230004.jpg

only sanded lightly

2008_0423blackyskyline22230006.jpg

then on with high build primer

2008_0423blackyskyline22230007.jpg

painted the centre of the wheels with satin black

2008_0423blackyskyline22230008.jpg

then after a while to dry infront of the heat lamp masked up the centre to spray the edge silver

2008_0423blackyskyline22230009.jpg

2008_0423blackyskyline22230011.jpg

with the centre caps i sanded the vw in the centre and touched in with a black touch up pen which left me with this

2008_0423blackyskyline22230010.jpg

i was well happy with this reult and its exactly the look i was hoping to get :)

so i orderd a new set of boots i oppted for 165/60r14 i was hoping to get a more stretched look but couldnt realy determin what size to go for but i am happy with the way they sit for now :)

2008_0424blackyskyline22230005.jpg

tyres were fitted by my mate and myself (seejayats on here )

2008_0424blackyskyline22230006.jpg

i knew my ten years of tyre fitting would be usefull lmao

2008_0424blackyskyline22230007.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230008.jpg

so this is a before and after time

2008_0424blackyskyline22230013.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230014.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230011.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230016.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230012.jpg

2008_0424blackyskyline22230015.jpg

so they are on and its mot time tomorrow :)

i have already got the clear indicators for the front and the side repetors

and the badgless grill is on its way !

the coilovers have been ordered to so she will be sitting on her backside very soon :) they are capable of being lowered from 20mm to 120mm so it should be enuf :lol::lol:

as for the detail it will be having the full treatment over the next couple of nights after work but i will keep you updated

ok got the car home tonight and started the detail ththis is what the car looked like at the start :)

2008_0430blackyskyline22230001.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230005.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230002.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230003.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230004.jpg

the paint is pretty shocking tbh ! so with a bit of luck the weather will hold off for the bank holiday and i can get it corrected

but at least the washing and the claying has been done :)

process

AG apc all the car working in with a brush

2008_0430blackyskyline22230010.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230011.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230013.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230017.jpg

then rinced

onto the snowfoam

2008_0430blackyskyline22230018.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230019.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230020.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230021.jpg

while the snowfoam was dwelling i worked on the door shuts and the doors with AG apc and the brush

couple of befores during and afters

2008_0430blackyskyline22230022.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230023.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230024.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230031.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230032.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230034.jpg

car was then rinced shuts and exterior and then i washed the car with MEGS gold glass shampoo

and left me with this

2008_0430blackyskyline22230035.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230036.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230037.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230038.jpg

onto the clay and i used megs clay and megs last touch as lube

this was half of the roof n/s

2008_0430blackyskyline22230042.jpg

boot lid

2008_0430blackyskyline22230043.jpg

bonnet

2008_0430blackyskyline22230041.jpg

car wash the rewashed using the same process as earlier and then dried with a sonus wun der drying towel

2008_0430blackyskyline22230045.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230001.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230046.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230006.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230047.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230007.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230048.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230008.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230049.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230009.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230050.jpg

so i decided to put the clear indicators as the light was starting go and i couldnt wait any longer

the new ones

2008_0430blackyskyline22230053.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230052.jpg

as you can see i was missing the gold fish from my indicator :lol:

while they were out i apc the side of the head lamp and the indicator seating

2008_0430blackyskyline22230055.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230056.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230057.jpg

after they were in it was onto the badgeless grill ! the standard grill however aint gonna be going back on as some of the clips snap as i removed it with a little force coz the clip holders were a little rusty ! but she came off in the end :)

2008_0430blackyskyline22230058.jpg

the new grilll and fitted :)

2008_0430blackyskyline22230059.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230060.jpg

and it made a hell of a difference to the face of the car fair play :)

2008_0430blackyskyline22230005.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230061.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230038.jpg

2008_0430blackyskyline22230063.jpg

just cant wait to get the coilovers on now and get it SLAMMED

had a day off today so i thought i would get on with some polishing work ,

but i first had a little look at the side trim to see if i would be able to remove it ! on inspection (as it is hanging off a bit) i could see behind that the door at sometime has had a little paint .

but whoever painted the door was to lazy to take the remaining trim tape off and just painted over it ! where it is marked you can see :(

2008_0505blackyskyline22230002.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230003.jpg

so this is gonna stay on for now dont realy want to spend money on painting the car as it is supposed to be a runabout :) ( it will prob be done very soon knowing my ocd:lol:)

anyway onto the paintwork

using my silverline and AG polishing pad oppted for paint renovator with to passes and then one pass of AG 02B fine renovator ,and then one pass with good old AG srp

2008_0505blackyskyline22230006.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230007.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230011.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230015.jpg

good old towel under the bonnet to lift it not to catch the wings

2008_0505blackyskyline22230005.jpg

a reflection shot with the sun tring its hardest the get through the clouds and failing

2008_0505blackyskyline22230008.jpg

after two passes of AG paint renovator and a shot in the process

2008_0505blackyskyline22230012.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230009.jpg

and after a pass of AG ultrafine renovator :):) perfect

2008_0505blackyskyline22230010.jpg

after that i did one pass with AG srp just to make sure

2008_0505blackyskyline22230016.jpg

before and after with led tourch

2008_0505blackyskyline22230013.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230014.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230020.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230023.jpg

so that was the bonnet corrected and onto the o/s wing using the same proccess as before a couple of befores and afters

2008_0505blackyskyline22230025.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230027.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230026.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230028.jpg

50/50

2008_0505blackyskyline22230030.jpg

and then the back of the wing

2008_0505blackyskyline22230031.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230032.jpg

and then some horrible looking clouds were lurking and then the inevitable the heavens opened so rain stops play for now :(

2008_0505blackyskyline22230033.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230035.jpg

2008_0505blackyskyline22230034.jpg

will keep you posted when i get another day on the polishing

Looks nice and clean does that.

Still has the legendary dent on the bottom of the rear bumper whicih every 8v seems to come with!

it amazes me how this 'paint correction/detailing' process can really make a car get back to it's former glory! I also like your style with the mk4, low and simple!

Looks Like a good base to start from. Think is will look x10 better when its slammed 8-)

jesus christ thats awsome! hats off too you fella!

i like, what a diference it makes when cleand/polished. looks like new paint :) nice 1 and 100% on effort, bring on the lowness..

first off i would like to give a "big up " to ANTWAN thank you so much for coming up to give me a hand fitting the coilovers on the polo (tbh he did dam near all of it ) you are a legend :thumb::thumb::thumb:

so off with the wheels and sraped up all the bolts to be removed

2008_0507blackyskyline22230001.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230002.jpg

and it wasnt long before antwan had the strut off

2008_0507blackyskyline22230003.jpg

new coilover you can see a big difference in the size of the legs

2008_0507blackyskyline22230004.jpg

top mount

2008_0507blackyskyline22230005.jpg

to be safe first off we set the coilover at 40mm from the bottom of the thread

2008_0507blackyskyline22230007.jpg

once the coily was fitted in the turet you can see where the old shock left the hub sitting !! little bit of a differance lol

2008_0507blackyskyline22230008.jpg

once fitted i sprayed the coily with ACF50 (anti coprrsion formula 50 )

to give it a bit of protection from the elements

2008_0507blackyskyline22230009.jpg

before re fitting the wheel we took the arch liners out just in case they were going to rub

2008_0507blackyskyline22230010.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230011.jpg

whell back on the fronts fitted :)

2008_0507blackyskyline22230012.jpg

onto the rears

2008_0507blackyskyline22230013.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230014.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230015.jpg

again a hell of a differance in length between the two

2008_0507blackyskyline22230016.jpg

also lowerd the spring 40mm from the bottom again

2008_0507blackyskyline22230017.jpg

how close is the bolt from the inner arch lol

2008_0507blackyskyline22230018.jpg

and refitted

2008_0507blackyskyline22230019.jpg

after dropping the car down and going for a spin around the block

we decided to take it down further so the fronts went down another 15mm

2008_0507blackyskyline22230021.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230022.jpg

and the backs a further 10mm

2008_0507blackyskyline22230023.jpg

so a pic of before

2008_0430blackyskyline22230063.jpg

and after

2008_0507blackyskyline22230029.jpg

a little different from the start of the project

2008_0424blackyskyline22230009.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230029.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230030.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230032.jpg

2008_0507blackyskyline22230031.jpg

hope you like :) i am well stoked cant wait to get the clear side in repeaters now :)[/
