Hi all,

i was reading lots of threads earlier and a common mod seems to be having the flywheel skimmed (lightened). I could easily get this done at work presuming all they do is just skim a load of material off?

But tbh, i haven't really got a clue when it comes to the really techincal engine stuff, so would it be worth the hassle? If so, what gain would i see- i am guess not alot really. I've only got 60 horses under the bonnet and can't afford a new car lol!

I know its probably a realy stupid question, just wondered if you could help.

There really isn't that much to be had out of our shitty engines :(

Dont do it yourself it needs to be balanced otherwise it will shake you car to bits!!

Even if you do get it done you wouldnt notice a massive difference on an otherwise stock engine.

needs to be fairly modded to make it worthwhile, although when it is modded you do notice they lose quite a bit of torque but rev sooo much more freely at the top end.

I find it hard to believe you would lose torque by lightening the flywheel. In fact you won't lose or gain any power/torque.

The car will accelerate and de-accelerate faster. The effect is the same as lightening the car, but without having to remove the back seats.

Ditch the mk4 flywheel and fit the mk3 one with the mk3 starter. It's half the thickness so should be substantially lighter.
