The whole thing about drink drivers is the fact they dont listen, and the only way you can convince them drink driving is bad, is to have an accident like i posted.

See thats just daft, your assuming that every drunk is going to kill 4 people as soon as they put keys in ignition, true majortiy of time they dont, and all is fine. But you cant pin it on pub owners bar tenders to enforce anything, the point i was trying to make was that they arent going to go out of their way to do anything, as its the nature of their business.

Whoa what a story. Man, i can understand how bad that must have been for you to witness such a thing. Good on you and the other driver for sticking around for support. Can't believe the person in front of you drove on! its a harsh story and images which will stay with you like you mentioned before, but remember you did what you could and at least you stuck around unlike others who would drive off and ignore somebody potentially dieing on the side of a road.

That's one hell of a story to disturb those who drive whilst under the influence of drink. Even if they aren't that drunk and driving a vehicle like that, they could easily cause an accident of such or be involved in a huge accident risking the lives of others.

i have grassed people up for drink driving before, some lad kicked off with me outside a club for absolutley no reason apart from he was pissed, he then got in to his car and drove off, i rang the police told them his reg they pulled him in the 1 way circuit round town and he got done for drink driving! OWNED

shit buddy sorry to hear that. must be hard to see all that! I've stopped a few times at accidents to see if everyone is okay but they have always been fine so you have a heart of gold for stopping.

well i went back today to see the scene in day light, looked different this time, alot of the tree branches removed, from looking i think the car must have gone 90degrees right, then momentum caused the car to then roll to the left, that is what crushed the roof, then it dropped to settle pivoting just over that wall

In all fairness that is horrible to see, i hate seeing flowers etc at the side of the road. but at the same time, you would think a father would be more sensible tbh....that childs now gonna have to grow up without a dad because of one stupid moment...:(

My friends know that i wouldn't want a shrine at the side of the road,its not a good look imo and we have cemetaries for that.

But they're popping up everywhere,and without them we had no idea how much it was happening.

A friend and i decided to be first aiders a couple of years ago,hardly professional paramedics,but whilst I've been lucky so far,he's had to deal with some heart breaking stuff.

Most recent was a young adult woman,twiglet in a mini skirt,left the passenger saddle of a very fast jap superbike thanks to a motorist overtaking into her boyfriends path. The road may as well have been a cheese grater - as well as a shattered skeleton,she was practically skinned alive.

Mate could do nothing for her.

You dont have to be drunk to destroy entire families for life - a little motivated by impatience,whilst considering your schedule,is plenty.

Seeing flowers on the side of the road is normally the worst thing for me. but i suppose in many cases it acts as a warning to some other drivers. some stretches of road have a scary amount of shrines, memorials and flowers along them.

The police do offer counseling normally in this kind of accident. I've been offered it in the past after being the 1st on the scene of a fatality, I went once but as I've had first aid & response training i knew what to expect at an accident but it still leaves you shaking afterwards and talking to someone is good, but for my passenger it was the 1st time he had seen anything like this and he didnt cope well with it and found just having the informal chats over a few weeks was enough to get over it.

i was pissed at the newspaper headline, it made it sound like it was the roads fault (if that makes sense lol)

no mention of the pissed driver, or that the driver killed the passenger! very carefully worded

but again, as the driver hadnt yet been "proved" drunk, they couldnt print it, and the writer did tell me they do normally follow these up, and the police never told them that he was drunk

Such is the way all through - i had a big smash when someone pulled out on me about seven years ago,and the paramedic said the road was rubbish.

I said there was nothing wrong with the road,and i wouldn't be on a spinal board if he'd not pulled out of a T-junction on me.

tis a shame, despite them being drunk kevo twats... but i have no respect for drink driving, it's neither big nor clever!

although i see where matey is coming from regarding pubs although his post was not necessarily well worded. If i was working in a pub and i knew someone was about to drive home legless, i would like to think i would do something, but in reality i wouldn't! I think a 'tip-off line', for joe public as well as landlords/barstaff would be good, plenty of drivers i have seen would cause me to call said hypothetical number... but i just guess it would be abused and a way of pranking your mates?

DK, don't lose sleep over it mate, go councelling or something. That's what I did after I had to identify 2 of my mates when they hit a coach head on at about 100mph in a MR2.

The only thing they could really take was the drivers right hand which I knew was my mates coz it had 2 tattoos. Lost sleep ALOT then learned that I needed to get on with life so I did and got councelling.

when i rolled my first car,the lad that found me was a friend of mine(who had recently joined the fire force).....i was in my car fine and in one peice,more worried about what i was going to tell my dad when i got home when he stopped.....i could hear his engine,doors opening and closeing etc so i was sort of waiting for someone to stick the head through the window and when i seen him he was chalk white

obviously he had seen my car,knew it was mine and expected the worse

iv not seen him for a long time now.....but occassionally i bump into him and he always tells me how that was his worse nightmare......going to the scene of an accident to find someone he knew

remember being told a story at one of those police talks in college(this is true), police were attending a drink drive smash between two cars, the sober driver who was killed in the accident(the drunk survived) happened to be the leading police officer at the scenes daughter...i cant imagine what that would feel like

I imagine that would be terrible, so many mixed emotions for that police officer, would never want to be in that situation....or the situation of being at the scene of an accident which a family member was involved in

Without going over what happened to me again, I would also recommend counselling- just so you know there's nothing lurking.

I think I was lucky to be knocked out in my accident, as I think it would/will be much harder for the guy who crashed into my car- seeing me covered in blood strapped to a board etc. I think he thought he had killed me for a good few hours. That can't have been good, at least I had drugs in hospital.
