I've recently fitted a Momo stearing wheel, and despite buying an airbag boss and wiring up the resistor into where the airbag used to be, the light still comes on...

The MOT is looming and i wanna know the best way of getting rid of the light.

A nice easy to follow guide would be nice :p

take off the dash, grab some handy blue tac, put it over the bulb, put the dash back on, job done.

He`s right, although i think this area seems abit grey. They shouldn`t fail your car, but you might get an advisory.

I think the only way to get it reset is by the VAG-COM software which most garages have and will probably charge you a small sum to do it.

Or you can buy a cable off ebay for about £13, get the software and do it yourself (which i`m hoping to do soon)

The free way is to remove the bulb, or as said above, take it to somewhere who has the software and I'm guessing you will be charged no more than a tenner.

No only the dials :) not sure how they come out in a mk4 tho

ah cool, just a few torx screws i think. if its just the dials ill have a go. I'm not removing the entire dash for a bulb lol.

depends on you dials with the 6n, you ill get a advisory as mine did. you can ver remove the LED but thts hard work or just as someone said cover it up easiest way. its 4 torx screws for the cover then removing the rest is easy. and just unplug from th back. the if you have the newer dials you might find the lower 2 screws hard to remove ... well i did haha. think there about a t20 or t15. I'm sure iv seen some pics on how to remove them. hope this hepls.

also forgot to add did you reset the clocks sinse u have fitted the resistor?

as you need to du tht as when i plugged my airbag back in the light still came on till my maake used his comp and reset it for me.

Like a VAG COM thing? i thought that if you used one of them you could just turn the light off?

do this its cheap and easy! i did it on mine, works perfectly!

Sicnce we got our car back from the volkswagen people, it (airbag liht) has stayed on. I do believe they have failed to put the steering wheel on right again as it hangs a bit to the left.

But it passed the mot fine, no advisory

my mate used vag com. it reset it not sure if u can just turn off the light.

ah ok, well so long as it doesnt fail its MOT then I'm not too fussed :)

New to forum. Hi everyone. Great forum you guys got here.

I know this is an old post but if you guys might help me out.

I have a polo 6n2 1.4L 16v 3dr. Some weeks ago I caught oil while taking a turn and ended in the wall... the car is fine altrough i had to drop 700€ but the real issue is the airbag light. Me and my mechanic tried the resistor and the vag.com. Neither way the airbag light will go off, and in my country we fail at MOT if the light's on. It's the driver's seat airbag, and i don't want to drop 1000€ on airbag, airbag ecu, and shock sensor + Assembly by vw certified tech.

Any help?

If it could be so simple... here in portugal, the MOT inspectors know the cars... in vw they wait for the light to come on on the first key turn and then turn off... a friend of mine tried that and they asked I'm why the airbag light would come on... he replied it never came on... they went to the manual and saw it should light up for 2-3 seconds and then turn off... result... MOT FAIL!

Sorry all, dragging this one up from the murky depths again.

When I got my 6N2 at the back end of last year, the previous, previous owner had a Momo wheel fitted I believe. The previous owner whipped this off and put a standard one back on but unfortunately, this meant the airbag light came on and stayed on.

Now when I got the car, he chucked in a spare wheel which he said had the transistor (I think) still fitted which would fix the airbag light problem. So my question is, what/where is the transistor (I've found a multi core cable with a yellow connector on the end - is that it?) and how do I fit it to stop the airbag light coming on? Don't fancy the pulling the bulb job - sounds easier to whip the wheel off, replace a transistor and put it back on (which I need to do anyway as the wheel isn't on dead straight).

Oh, and if the airbag light is on, does the airbag still work (daft question!).

exactly what i did!

scan it on vag com and see if there's an airbag fault, alternatively disconnect the battery for 20 mins. if the light comes back on you know there's a fault.

removing the mk5 clocks is pretty easy but are more modern than the mk4, they have to be split and you can't remove the bulb. they have LED's that are soldered to the pcb and are hard to access.

you can get someone with vagcom to disable the bag that is causing the fault and it'll clear the light.

do you know how to remove the clocks? is it the allen key/torx that go around the actual clocks?
