If there Girling 54mm calipers, you need carriers off early audi 80/90 quattro's.

I've been in every scrapyard down here Ross looking for those carriers

and i can't find a bloody car anywhere mate...even tried breakers on

E-bay and still got no joy mate.

as above or scirroco 16v , if you can find hen`s teeth

done the 256 upgrade to my g , works a treat :-D

i thought thay where g60 carriers?

You could be right... :paranoid:

i know how much of a pain these are to track down , as my mate looked for months and then mhen he came back from bedford he had a look on the pc and a set turned up in milton keynes . so he did the deal at £70 and went back up the next day

mine turned up just 5 mins round the corner :lol: and were £10 cheaper

all i can say is keep looking , and dont forget about german ebay

g60 carriers are a no go dude, the hub spacing is too large, as said you need rocco 16v or select big engined old skool audis, there is a documented list but they are few an far between. I've had 6 sets of them now, but despite being asked on countless occasions, I've never split them.

They are available new iirc but are over 140 quid a side from the stealers and thats just for carrier/slider pin and bush (of which the slider pin and bush are not a singularly replaceable part, well not on vagcat anyway, i know as i was after one, had to rob them off another set of mk3 golf brakes)

best bet is the vauxhall conversion - guide through this page http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?na...wforum&f=16

or get someone to machine you some 17mm carrier spacers and use G40 calipers and carriers

nice suggestion but surely a larger piston contact is better than a larger surface area? plus wouldnt the g40 pads not cover enough of the 256mm to make it fully worthwhile?

i have had the spacers for vwii calipers for 280mm discs on a mk1 and stopping was ample, but miles away from then difference fitting the 256mm discs and larger pistoned calipers.

i did fit a 22mm MC and 9 inch servo though to combat any excess pedal travel through having to push more fluid

dont you mean 8.5mm spacers????

yes  brain not working at 8am this morning!

the bigger single piston will make little difference, the disc size gives you more leverage and therefore more braking force. the piston setup changes the feel and modulation. a 4 pot won't give you any more power alone on 239mm discs, just better modulation

my mate that fitted the 256`s had 280`s with the spacers and g40 calipers , the brakes were shockingly bad and we ended up on a round about , i would sugest that either do the 256`s on the bigger calipers or go and spend money on a pedal box and super dupper pads for the 239`s

what difference is fitting a pedal box going to make to 239mm discs? none!
