I've got a black hycote spray can, and just wanting to respray some of the body work on my car because of the scratches on it.

Yes, got told my car paint is the original Volkswagen Black and i've got the Volkswagen Black paint.

if u go straiit over without primer and laquer it will be dull

just remeber the standard spraying rules, sanding after every coat with fine paper, dnt spray to close, make sure you do smooth and even coat, give it time to dry, that sort of thing

800 grit wet and dry sand paper?

when i did mine i used 1000 its just to prevent the orange peal you'll get if you dont, your last coat should be done with the finest paper you can get..

Is a 3000 grit the finest paper or is the 100 the finest?

Na 1000 will be kl, 100 is really corse the lower the number the harder the paper is..simple the more damage it will do..

This is what i've done at the moment

Don't think it's a good job to be honest

Driver's side door.. filled but not primed or painted just yet

Bonnet filled, primed and paint.. not shiny

Passenger's side door painted and laquered.. not shiny

Any way of getting it any better?

That bonnet needs more sanding by the looks of it, or more primer or something you can still see the outline. get some decent upol filler primer or something mate :-)

Also some g3 cutting compound shoudl make it shine

I had to sand down most of the bonnet because the window blew off the paper when i was priming it and it over-sprayed. Someone smashed into my window mirror when i was parked and scraped all the paint off. What you meaning scuffing the paint?

I have to say respect for trying mate but your not gonna get a shiny standard finish.

To get the best finish prime the area your going to paint, sand it down to a smooth finish. When your spraying the area hold the can about 20cm away from the panel. if you can mask the areas of that your not painting then start the can off the area and bring the it across were your spraying.

with your first coats spray the area and leave it to dry, but not completely just as its starting to dry apply the second layer and leave to dry. Then follow the same with the laquer and let it dry. If you get any runs use 1500 paper wet to remove them and polish with g3 when its dried.

Make sure you clean the nozzles of the cans after using by turning the can upside down and spraying for a few seconds otherwise the paint wont come out the same second time round.

I'll redo the bonnet mate, i'll try again :)

double check you are paint code I've got a 98 16v 100bhp 5dr and colour for that is black magic pearl i would double check mate has it looks same coulour to yours. might explain why its so dull.

cant seem to upload pic but if u go in to discussions genral car chat there is a pic in there 17th april (newbie saying hi). car looks dull on pic but looks differnt colour when washed.

personally i would spray a bonnet with a can, find a can that is campatable with a clear cote out of a tin and finish it off with that.

it will cost under £100 to get the bonnet sprayed and its worth it.
