Ok so after my headlights being smashed i have bought some new ones, but they are non electric adjust so they don't fit my polo.

How bad is it to drive if headlights do not work? Obviously would only drive in day time and only un till i sort out new lights?

Don't want to be sent to prison (lol)! My family have made their views clear!

Well i don't think there's any problem aslong as you don't drive in the dark, only thing wrong would be you won't be able to flash your lights.

Which in theory is illegal. It shouldn't even be done to let people out at junctions. Nor for bringing attention to yourself, that's why you have a horn. :p

Just hope you don't get pulled over for a routine check where the police officer checks all your lights, windscreen washer jets and wipers!

This happened to me a couple of years back.

You should be fine though, if you get stopped just say you didn't know, and that you would get them sorted ASAP. Nothings going to happen.

As long as you intend getting them fixed asap and dont drive round for the hell of it (i.e only make necessary journeys), there shouldnt be a problem. the worst that could happen is the police give you 14 days to get them fixed and checked at a local garage.

i made the same mistake on my 6n.

if you can get the headlight wiring from the polo you got your lights from, plug it all in, your lights should work, but without the adjust.

alright mate... the real answer is even if it is illegal, how can that cop prove it didn't just happen on the journey you are on if/when you get pulled? although you can have cars without lights (certain rods and classics), yours will need them legally. However, don't be a dick if you get pulled, say it just happended and roberts you fathers brother

It's illegal to have lights fitted that don't work. Legally you're supposed to use your lights at least 30 mins before sunset but if it's not dark you're unlikely to be caught but it could dtill land you in the poo.

You could get a VDRS which gives you 14 days to get them fixed or get a fine (in which case, why not fix them now?)

More seriously if you knowingly have a vehicle in dangerous condition (which it is if your lights don't work) you can be guilty of dangerous driving which will land you with a ban.

Also there's the risk of being involved in an accident with another car or pedestrian and even if it's not your fault if your lights are found to be out of order and you've had a crash you could land yourself in some very serious trouble which would again leave you with a ban.

Unlikely, but not worth the risk imho.

and its a two second easy fix mate, i'm assuming you accidently brought the 4pin plug lights and your plugs are the 7pin ones?

if you have the 4pin plugs from the lights you brought just chop the 7pins off an shove the 4pin ones on! if you havnt got the plugs then i'm sure some quick bodging off the 7pin ones can be done just to make yourself legal for a while
