Hey guys, just thought i woild set up a thread regarding HID issues and questions, angel eyes and aftermarket OEM wiring for the polos! I'm generally more clued up on the 6n, but I'm sure I can help on other models to.

Any advice on purchases

-help with installation

-issues and fitting HID's which ones to buy etc...

-LHD to RHD conversion for headlights

-which bulbs should you buy

you could try asking about some of the xenon gas filled bulbs or the philips extra bright they do. I have seen some people have had good results from them.

This is hard to tell really without seeing the light closer up.

so you want to replace the headlights??

few options...

Anegl eyes BUT to gt a descent light output you would need HID's or high powered H7 halogens such as Philips VisionPlus. But no matter how much the halogens cost you or how bright they claim to be, they will never be as good as HIDs. (The best for projector lenses.) To get a set of angel eyes and a descent HID st your looking at about £250 - £300

If this seems like a bit too much cash then consider some FK powerlooks, they look much better than standard headlights and you dont need any HID's some descent philips or OSRAM bulbs would be cool. Will probably cost under £200 to get tht sorted in my opionion the powerlooks like very OEM+

heres the facts:

The spherical ball looking thing (sorry about the poor english) is called the projector lens. Its like a curved magnifying glass that your dipped beam uses. So yes, most, if not all angel eyes for the polo contain projector lenses.

LHD or RHD??

depends on what brand they are and where you got them from. Here are a few examples...

Ultra branded angel eyes are RHD

FK angel eyes are LHD

nice thread amte..iv got a set of fk angle eyes for my 6n2.i bought some h7 bulbs at 19 quid for 2 so i thought they where quite pricey.however on one side left set of the angel eyes the plastic cover has started to crack from the inside and it doesnt look to good..any ideas

If your referrig to the chrome reflective material there isnt too much you can do mate I'm afraid. The only thing I can think to do is to get some adhesive that can deal with the heat and seal the crack to stop any condensation.

Me too. Have had them sitting around for ages as I could not work out what to wire where! Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm assuming your car has four wires and the loom/lights has 7?

If so then just chop off the male connector and connect colour for color, and leave the three extra if you have a loom. If you don't have a loom then you need to get two connectors from a scrap yard etc and do the same leaving the three extra wires.

Also, for 6n / 6n2 drivers I would recomend not using hid lights. Legallity aside the are glarey as f$%k and totally unnecessary. Sure this is mainly because people don't align there lights properly, but the amount of glare is still overkill when you think that the light going everywhere else ie trees and down near the bumper etc could be going in front where it needs to be.

If your using h4, in a ppolo then I would recomend using an updated relayed wiring loom and cleaning the inside of you lights. This way even with old bulbs the light output will be at least triple what it was. I can guarentee this. And if somehow this is not enough light, then you can consider higher wattage bulbs or hid. In my 6n daily I use h4 60/100w "all weather" bulbs and an uprated loom. The difference from stock was amazing even with the old bulbs.

On my project 6n I have custom depo projectors which use a d1s setup from a BMW. This is top secret and confidential of course lol but really, just Google hid retrofit and there are thousands of links to American sites where they have done this.

MOST IMPORTANTLY get your lights aligned properly, any mot station can do tgis, they might ask for a fiver. Or you can do it yours self. It won't be 100% but close enough, just park a few metres from a wall on level ground and adjust them so they are straight on and level with each other.

Also, with the 6n2, there are no better lights then the gti projectors. The cut off beam is awesome and makes great light. Plus they are auto leveling if setup properly, which means you won't ever blind on coming traffic.

With the 9n / 9n3 they have different lights. Sure, they also use h7 bulbs, but if you look into the bowl you can see it has a shield over the bulb. This means that they are a little more hid friendly, this doesn't mean they can be used without problems, but it's better then the 6n2.

If you are thinking of using hid in the 6n2/9n/9n3 then I would go for the h7R, some will say they make no difference, but I have seen proof on a beam tester (mot tool) that they do produce less glare and scattered light. For what it's worth I would just get them as these days they cost no more then the normal h7. I would also go for the metal based ones as they are a lot easier to fit as they are thinner where the clip goes.

Do I have to use canbus ballast's for a 9N?

No, unless it has some sort of bulb failure warning but I dont think they do.

I'm looking at a set of FK angel eyes for my 9n, Iv been told I'd need HIDs for them as the standard bulbs aren't the best, would I just need to stick brighter bulbs in or would I need a full conversion kit?

Hello there. I have bought some angel eyes for my 6n I am not too sure on details but when I tried to insert them in car it seemed as if the radiator housing needed cutting? Is this common?

I am having a problem with the installation of my angel eyes, i managed to get all the wiring right, but the angel eyes are only bright when i click the full beam on which shouldnt be the case.

My car is a polo 6n2 2001

does anyone know how to fix this problem so i do not always have to keep the full beam on when driving?
